It was mud from the flea market. Judging by the condition of the tires, it hadn't been ridden in many years.

I couldn't get it to switch into any gears so I shot WD40 in the brifters and got the right side working but not the left. I'm in the process of opening it up to give it a more thorough cleaning. I'm learning as I go along since it's my first time with brifters. What type of lubricant should I use once I get them both cleaned and working?

There was a lot of some kind of tape residue everywhere on the frame as though it had been covered with decals or something. Still working on cleaning it all off with naptha.
