I think I like biathlon for the same reasons I like old school track and field, the history and survival.
Discus, javelin, shot put - all weapons. And if you lived in Norway in like the 1700-1800s(?) and wanted to survive, you had to be able to shoot a reindeer while you're huffing and puffing from snowshoeing/skiing out to find it.
