KOM was "King of the Mountain" it basically replaced the Cimarron as Schwinn's top of the line MTB offering. It did not last long...a year or two before it moved to Paramount branded.

The Schwinn bikes, like most brands, came boxed, as they do today. Assembly included front wheel, handlebars, saddle/Seatpost, pedals. Sometimes the grips on mountain bikes were not installed, and we had to slip the brake levers and shifters on the bars as well...depended upon the brand. Things were close to adjusted, but we often had to fine tune things. We had to install the reflectors too.

Headsets came installed and adjusted on all bikes except the special orders (3Rensho, Serottas, etc). I do not recall ever having to adjust any of them out of the box.
