Tampa to St. Louis Mission22 and VFW

I plan on doing the almost 1,200 miles from my last military assignment in Tampa to the MEPS station in St. Louis where I took my oath of enlistment in 1977. I'll be raising money for Mission 22 and The VFW. I'll most likely be riding unsupported. My start date will be sometime the middle of May, 2019. My bike is a Giant TCX (2016 I think). I need advice; I've never done more than 100 miles in a day and never did multi-day centuries. I currently ride with toe cages but have clipless and plan on getting used to them before to decide which is better. I started asking for sponsors: trip planning from AAA, free rooms from a hotel chain, panniers from a clearance house, extra tires and tubes. I also wonder if I might want a different bike? Something lighter and higher end. I might hunt for something lighter on Craigslist; used so it's more affordable. Advice and ideas please everyone. Thanks, Steve
