Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Has this ever been successfully executed in the real world?

It requires humans to be smarter than a zipper. Confidence is low that this is common.

Maybe if there were multiple flashing signs with instructions, they could get 70% of drivers to follow suit. But with just one or two? Nope.

Humans would just run into the signs.

On my Venge, standard 53/39 and 28t on a Force 22 groupset. Bike's a total POS (as is the gearing) but I only ride it when I am going to be pressing hard on the pedals.
The Litespeed has 53/39 (I'm a traditionalist) and 11-32, and yesterday, since I'm currently trying to stay in Zone 2, I found myself wishing for one more cog. No problem on the Canyon, with 52/36 x11-34. I still managed to keep HR no higher than low Z3.

They make a statement, but what that statement is, is in the eye of the beholder.

Eddie thinks 52/42 or GTFO.

52/42 and Z2 are not compatible, unless you live in Florida or Nebraska.

I rode 53/42 and 13-21 6 speed for decades. Would NOT go back to that. No thanks.

My C&V ride co-organizer is really into bikes from before 1980, so he's often doing our rides with that kind of cassette freewheel. Mostly, it's not a problem, but there's one 1/4 mile long, 8% pitch where he has not choice but to stomp up it.

Lockwood, yes, I remember that road. Oof! That must have been quite the flood to scour away the road bed like that. And in such a flat area!

All of our local slip outs are mountain slides, usually on some pretty steep grades.

Padres game was quite nice. Gorgeous out, low 70s and lightly breezy. Parked ~1.5 miles away above downtown and walked in to avoid the post game traffic and parking fees. And we won! We scored HRs on our second and third at-bats and were up 4-0 by the time I left in the 8th. Had a mother's day gathering to attend at my godmother's place.

Here's a photo of our group, I'm in blue. The lady on the far right was not part of our group, but she did a most excellent job of photo-bombing IMO

We've reached That Time Of Year, when weather forecasting becomes boring here....
