Picked this wool Miyata jersey up at the Trexlertown Swap Meet last weekend. Saw somebody walking by my stall with it on so I caught up to him and asked him where he got it. He said he didn't own any Miyatas and offered to sell it to me for $5 more than he bought it for as a finders fee.

It was in nice shape and it fits me, so I was happy to snag it for $30. I've been watching for Miyata jerseys on ebay and most of them seem to be branded Koga Miyata, so I'm guessing this is an older one from the 80s?

Picked this 610 up for my wife after hearing high praise on this forum for this model. Tires are old and will be replaced as well as the puffy handle bar wrap. This bike appears to have been stored almost new. Craig's list find.

Cult just got bigger. 1986 Koga Miyata Roadwinner 56cm. Shimano 600 Group. A little to small for me, looking to trade up for a bigger boy in 59 - 61 cm.

Just thought I would include photos of my 1985 Team Miyata. I bought the frame for a song, but it was in rough shape. I stripped it of rust and paint, and decided to keep the bare steel look. I used acrylic artists paint to add "decals" and gave it a clear coat. The components are all more modern than the frame, and I would still like to replace the stem if the opportunity arises. The bike is smooth, responsive and reasonably agile. Joy to ride, and looks pretty good as well!

Not the font I would have chosen for a repaint, but I'm not offended by it. I assume the owner of the bike is paying homage to the frame's origin, not wallowing in any dreaded jingoism. Lighten up a little, nearly every Asian restaurant uses the same logic in picking a typeface.

Can you post some more pictures including some of the lug areas? I'm curious what the brazing looks like, I can see a little bit on that bottle cage mount. Did you do the clear coat yourself?

Thanks, the bike rides better than it looks. Font's can't innately be offensive to a whole continent of various cultures and peoples. I believe they call that stereotyping. Interestingly I did not pick the font out thinking about the bikes Japanese heritage. I actually like it.

If you click on one of the photos it should bring you to my flickr album of the bike. I'd be happy to take more pictures if there still aren't enough there to satisfy your curiosity. The lug work is really a thing of beauty, and I get a lot more compliments and questions about this bike than I thought I would. Of course when everyone else in a group ride is on a carbon Trek I suppose a bike like this is bound to stand out. I did do the clear coat myself, and so far it has held up well. I have a thread in the vintage forum about the rebuild: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...age?highlight=. I plan on keeping it up to date with details about how the clear coat does over time.

I'll have to keep an eye open for you around town. Did you get that powdercoat done around here? I'm looking for a good, at least somewhat inexpensive, place for a project or two.

Speaking of projects, here is a very sad frame that I bought recently for very cheap. As close as I can tell, it's a 1982 Six Ten that has been through the ringer. I did battle with the stem and the crank/bottom bracket and they're out now, but the seatpost is still stuck. It seems to have been painted with a coat of latex housepaint on top of another layer of white spraypaint. I've used a little goof off and it looks like the original paint and decals are at least still partially under there, not sure how effective I'll be in getting to them.

I don't think the fork is bent, but the alignment is a little off since the front wheel isn't exactly centered below the fork crown.

It is a rattlecan job. There's a place on PCH near the airport that will powdercoat for $100ish. I'm not a fan of PC (some exceptions) because most PCers don't know how to treat a bike frame and you can't remove it easily if it sucks or you want a change.

I had a fork that was a little off. Remove it from the frame and figure out a way to check it's symmetry. I used tiles in my kitchen, a string, and a tape measure. It gave me a good idea of what was going wrong.

Do framesets count? This is my team miyata racing bike. I rode the heck out of it and loved it. I had it built up with Suntour Superbe parts mainly.

Nope, sorry. If you aren't riding your Miyata you cant be in the club, I mean cult. If you give me a good deal on the frame we might reconsider you for an honorary membership though.
