Got my first flat today, ever, after about 3000 miles. Changing it was easy, putting the rear wheel back on took a while. I suck at doing that. Using my small pump I bent the valve but made it home fine. I used pliers to bend back the valve and pumped it up. I think it worked!

Also, it was the first time my Garmin lost a ride, and I'm so close to 2000 miles on the year. I guess it wasn't my day.

I just finished watching "Lance Armstrong: Stop at Nothing" on Showtime. Outstanding production.

We get thorns out here (goat heads) that are brutal on tires. Went through a streak where I flatted 6 times in one week. If the UCI had mechanics change out tubes in races I'd be in the Tour. I can change a tube in 3 minutes, give or take. When you flat in front of the a bunch of dudes with tattoos all over their face and pit bulls on chains, there is a lot motivation to get it done fast.

But yeah, it's all hot and dry here.
I'm well aware that Arizona sees sub-freezing temperatures on occasion. I've certainly spent enough time in deserts all around the world (including Arizona), and experienced sub-freezing temperatures in Saudi Arabia. That said, the average highs in December and January (the coldest months) in Phoenix and Tucson are warmer than the average highs in July (the warmest month) in Anchorage, and Anchorage is quite balmy compared to the rest of Alaska. If we're talking apples to apples, I am more suited to the highs and lows of Southcentral Alaska than those of Arizona, even a relatively mild place like Flagstaff. Don't get me started on snowfall and the length of ski seasons...

I don't think I've had a flat in the last 3000 miles. Pretty sure I haven't flatte since I broke my collarbone a few months ago anyway.

I'm not out riding at 3pm, I work for a living and the point was I'd rather rode in the summer than in the dark and 35 degrees. It doesn't matter where you live or how much of a bad ass you think you are, rising in 30's and 40's means you better be wearing more than a t shirt.

Or do you want to have a passing contest about how only people from Alaska know what cold feels like? You're so cool.

Depends on the alcohol content. A guy I worked with in Germany kept his outside all winter, often having to brush the snow off it to drink it.

I don't know what Plato has to do with anything, but it looks like I'm OK for a little while, at least.

We had a day last year where it was colder than the coldest city in Alaska. So Toledo knows what its like to be cold. I don't ever want it to be that cold again. That was just dumb

I'm so annoyed it's 60's this week and the weekend forecast is calling for snow and 30's (and colder). If it gets to 38 or so and the roads are dry I'm going for a ride. Stupid jet stream pushing the Alaska storm east.
