What Else Did You Just Buy For Your Bike? Thread Thread Thread..... Thread

I was told about the Mr. Pink about a month ago, had extra cash at the time and thought it'd be a great bike for commuting. I never really committed, but told the shop to give me a call when it came in and that I would likely take it off their hands. The call never came so I went to the shop this past weekend to shoot the **** - ended up telling one of the employees that I was excited about the Mr. Pink but think I should probably hold off at this point and would like to build up a Cannondale with them soon. So we started goofing around putting together builds and he said he'd send me some estimates.
Monday he sent me an estimate that was within my budget, so I sent a note to the shop owner saying that I was going to forego the Mr. Pink and build the Cannondale instead. He calls me immediate, tells me he'd knock $1k off the Mr. Pink and $600 off the Cannondale build if I paid for both of them that day.
I really couldn't turn down the offer, so now I have two new bikes on the way. The frame for the Cannondale isn't available until November, so it'll be a bit before it gets built up, but I'll have the Mr. Pink to keep me entertained in the meantime.
Edit to add: I picked up the SiSL crankset on ebay, new for $200. I have a brand new spiderring for it at home, so I can ditch the MKV rings. I think the SiSL crankset is around $975 MSRP or something ridiculous. I couldn't really beat that deal either.

I have been messing around with a set of (chro-mo) Speedplay Zeros myself the past couple weeks and while I really like the way they work - the cleat placement is so gawddam adjustable that I have yet to get them dialed in "perfect" and despair that I will never be able to stop myself from constantly adjusting the darned things. Swapped them out to use some toeclips/straps this weekend and am planning to put them back on my bike this morning but am sorely tempted to just go back to my old standby roadie clipless pedals ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

Checking the cleats with a straight edge... taking the aero surrounds on and off to adjust the float... and torquing Phillips head screws???

Rube Goldberg would love these things.
Is there a road specific pedal as simple as SPD? I'm "sorely tempted" as well.

When I dialed in my speedplay, I tightened down the float so it was directly in the middle and then backed off the screw on each side an even number of turns. I think I have about 3 dashes on each side of the center line. I find this to be very close to the float available with the yellow spd-sl.
I've read blogs from fitters that say you should leave them wide open and that your leg will adjust to all of the float over time and it's actually better for your joints, but I can't handle my ankle moving around like that when I'm trying to climb or sprint out of the saddle.
For the screws that hold the cleat to the shoe, I tighten them until the first click, then I turn the screw another 1/4 turn which is another click (when I say click, there is no real click, but it kind of feels like it when you're tightening the screw.
I've used the speedplays for almost a year now, and I have to be honest, I liked spd-sl better and will probably go back to that setup in time.

The reproductions of my bike's decals are in the works.
Doesn't sound exciting until you realize they are for a 1960s Rollfast lightweight.

Oh man. I haven't posted here in a while, so there's been a list of stuff I've gotten in the last 3 weeks.
Stuff I've actually bought:
Campy cables because I needed to recable my bike for a longer stem and wider bars
130mm Vibe 7s stem
DT Swiss 240s 20/24 hubs
Sapim Lasers
Hed Belgium C2
Mavic Ksyrium Exalith SL
New Specialized mountain Bandit saddle bag because the elastic on mine was worn out
Stuff that I've saved from the trash can at work:
4 GP4ksii in decent shape
A Vittoria Evo Corsa CX
A set of Ultegra 6700 brakes
Also my manager gave me a set of pretty much NOS Vittoria Evo Corsa SC II because he didn't like the way they looked.

Haha, nothing in the office, but we're hiring field people to do dog food demos. Unfortunately, they're only weekend positions, the pays not too bad tho, and you get to hang out in a pet store all day.

Bought this directly from the manufacturer for $13.00 shipped.
Best fitting gauge I've ever used. Once in place you can let go and it stays on the stem by itself!!! And the bleeder works great.

I've had one of their tire gauges for 25+ years. Currently kicking around inside my daughter's Honda.

Me too. I've always had the straight one for Schraeders for my car and motorcycles. I wanted a good Presta gauge so I checked their site and they offered the 90 degree jobbies as "Bicycle gauges" in versions from 15-160 PSI. And mini gauges for your tool pack. I couldn't find one on line, nor any place that could order that specific model. So I called them directly and they Said, "Mail a check and we'll send you one." I also like that the face doesn't include BAR readings. Less cluttered and easier to read.

Now the gunmetal is full price and others are on sale. I missed the boat. As for the USB charger, I was using that a lot as I use mine when I am on the bike. Damn thing took a beating from weather to a crash to charging almost daily. I don't run it at full blast either, just enough to hear the music and the traffic around me.
I have an old AM/FM cassette recording Walkman with bad FM, the tape deck doesn't really work but it has speakers on it to play the 5,000 watt oldies AM down the street for miles around.
$15 at a secondhand store, not because it was worth that but it was worth IT.
