Neat, didn't know you had such an intimate knowledge of San Diego county!

At the San Diego Bicycle Club's Men's racing team, we have had annual training camp in Borrego Springs each winter. On Saturday we ride up Montezuma and then split into two groups - a shorter route with race simulation, and the elite team goes on a longer ride through the mountains to Julian and back down Banner Grade/Yaqui Pass.

In the Lagunas, the major/epic DH run to Pine Valley is called Noble Canyon. I consider it a success if I dismount under 10 times and I know it quite well. Most of my friends (non-roadie friends) prefer to shuttle the trip; I like to ride back up Pine Creek road. The climb up is quite direct/steep and takes me about as long as the decent, to/from the meadow campsites.

So most Fridays I like to do "Casual Fridays" and wear jeans and a T-shirt. Today I chose to wear a regular button up with Khakis and nice shoes - more routine attire.

One of the applications/Biz Dev scientists ran by my desk and asked if I could come over and talk shop with some prospective clients about our characterization capabilities. I feel like this has happened before - where I get asked to interact with some clients on a Friday, and for some reason I had dressed more professionally than I usually would. Serendipity.

Mine just ended. A bit more energy expended than I had planned for. But that work needed doing and it felt great swinging the machete. It used to be a day in day out thing. Not so much anymore.

There are never more than 2 other people in my current office, and often - today, for example - not even one. I could show up in pajamas. Back when we went on lockdown back in 2020, and I was WFH full time, I made the decision to keep as much of my routine intact as possible. Even on days when I knew I had no meetings, and nobody from work would see me, I still showered, shaved, and dressed as I would for work - jeans and a button up shirt. I think this helped the family understand and respect that I was at work.

Didn't work with the dogs, though. Dory would still hop up on my lap and demand scritches, and Rango would come over and STARE at me till I fed him.

I used Rouvy for the first time yesterday. There's a lot I like about it - scenery and feel, most of all - but some things I still need to figure out.

I don't like that it kicks me to another course, and starts a new ride data file, when I reach the end of the course I started on. I have since learned that there is a way to set the course for "multi-lap". I need to look into that. Otherwise, I'll just make sure I select courses that are longer than I intend to ride.

I didn't care for the Peter/Will/Emma ghost riders, but I have just learned how to turn them off.

Because of the much larger number of users, Zwift still has a big advantage when I want to do a group ride with a bunch of other real folks in real time.

1991 Tesch, heavy gauge steel frame and fork with Ultegra 600 group and MA40 wheels, about 24 pounds. My main ride for 11 years. Brutally stiff but the best handling bike I ever rode.

I had 3 1965 Cadillacs. Got a banged up convertible from a drunk friend after he got a DWI while drinking from a 1 gallon bottle of wine with the top down on the freeway. I did a lot of work on it and got it running real nice.
Bought a Fleetwood sedan to take parts for the convertible and a guy left a Coupe deVille at my shop because he couldn't afford to fix it. I still feel bad about that and it's been over 40 years. I should have just given him the labor at least.

Had other big cars, 64 Galaxie, 63 Grand Prix, 65 Grand Prix. Lots of other cars, too.

Messin with the camera today. Did not clean the bike, and it was standing with a stand that uses the left crank arm, so it is not staged properly in that and several other respects.

3 of us met at a friend's house this morning and rode 20+ miles out of town. 15 miles of chilly (for us) headwind with 2K feet of up. We stopped at a country store and got hot coffee. They had to wait for me on all the little hills. I wasn't feeling strong plus 1 of them is 37 and pretty fit and the other is 59 but has an e-bike.

After coffee they wanted to do a 12 mile, 2K foot climb up to 5K feet elevation. I turned around and rode back solo. Felt much better solo.
