a shot of my touring/utility bike built by Rich Powers. Rich was mostly a small/hobby builder here in the midwest. Roughly 20 years and 60k miles of use, and still doing great!

@Aubergine, that's really nice. I have a 1982 McLean that I bought used in 1983. I originally built it up with mostly Nuovo Record. More recently, I redid it with modern Shimano but kept the old brake calipers. Do you find the left shifter indexes the front derailleur OK, and did you need to use any tricks?

that is a tubus, light and well built... intent for this bike was to support commuting and possible future credit card touring..... I got retired so no more commute but use for taking stuff to club lift or swim before or after ride using ortlieb panniers

@Aubergine, thanks. Man, I agree so hard: indexing the front is dumb. The trouble is, how do we do it with a brifter? I think I'm going to try shifting on the right with a brifter and on the left with a down tube or bar-end shifter.

it took patience and a pandemic. I work in a landmarked building in midtown Manhattan and have been asking for indoor bike parking since I started 10 years back. After we returned to the office from the pandemic, they set aside locations on two floors in our elevator lobbies (dedicated floors and entry with security preventing access to the offices) which had been unused huddle spaces. Not my floor, but no complaints!
