In my 63 years I have owned 6 bikes, including my first "kiddie" bike with training wheels. My newest-and only-is 34 years old.

I can - but only because I have pictures of all of them. I like to document the bikes I own and ride primarily because it's fun to be able to share pictures online, and because they might come in handy if any of my bikes were stolen. I have pics of all the bikes I've flipped because I had to take those for the Craigslist postings.

The first bicycle I owned was a used bicycle. I was very young at the time.
Later, in order to commute, my father bought a new mountain bike from Wal-Mart for me.
When I was in college, I also bought a second-hand bicycle for commuting.
I don't remember the above, they are all ordinary brands used as vehicles.
After work, I purchased an ICAN mountain bike and Bianchi/Cannondale two road bikes for my own hobby. Is it a new one to replace the wheelset and the frame?
Then I have owned 6 bikes, will still buy bikes as needed

My lineup is pretty boring. My hobby is riding, not collecting, though. I own a tiny condo in the city so a large fleet is out of the question. With no workshop space, project bikes don't make sense. Once the Maillard hubs on my 520 fail, it will become a project bike by default.

@sloar, how long does a bike last with you, on average?

Depends on how much I like it. I do have several keepers. It’s just a fun hobby that I enjoy, I don’t do it for the money. I just like to find them, clean and fix them ride them for a bit and pass them on and look for another one. To be honest I’m happy to just break even on a sale so I can buy another bike.

I think you do a good job of that. When I was bike flipping, I lost a lot, because I didn't manage the operation well at all. A few profit at it, but I respect those who break even and end up with a pile of very nice bikes that they effectively got for free or for the labor of fixing up bikes. Not only that, when we buy stuff off you, you offer us very decent deals, and I thank you for that.

I think I'm at 35 plus a Green Machine. That seems pretty reasonable. I still have 18 of them. Therein lies the problem. I just get too attached to bikes. I've got a 1973 Nishiki Olympic which I've ridden exactly once (bought it as a wheel donor for a Clunker Challenge and rode it just to say I had). Instead of stripping it down to the frame and contributing 8 pounds of valuable steel to the local recycler like any sane person would, I've declared it to be my "winter project" for three years running. This year I've even gone so far as to start working on it.
