Dukes of Hazard General Lee Bicycle

Hard to believe a sentient adult in 2019 would imagine that putting a Confederate flag on a bike and flaunting it on the internet would not be offensive. Currently it is known as the symbol of white supremacists and other racists. Historically it was the symbol for those invested in the continuance and expansion of slavery. It doesn't matter what we were taught 50 or 60 years ago in 8th grade History class. That was a lie. Most of us have learned stuff since then. Hope this thread will soon be locked or better yet, deleted.
Just make it go away. So much for free speech. And, If it is locked or deleted, now that, would be a very bad sign of things to come.

You would be surprised how little paint is actually on the bike. The paint is thinned to a milk-like state. Sanding the first three coats can go to bare metal in spots. It's actually quite thin once the final coat goes on. What is a revenoer?

I'd not ride a bike with the confederate flag but I won't pile on someone else for doing so... Especially when I don't know anything else about them. It's a nice bike and done well.

I'm not offended by the bike, I'm offended by your ignorance and mindless repetition of white supremacist propaganda.

It's sad when someone is unable to distinguish the opinion of an internet blogger from legitimate historical research. As others have mentioned, reading the responses to the post would be a good first step.

Lee did not join because of states rights.
Lee also did not join because of slavery (i am assuming due to the BS comment).
Lee reluctantly joined (was asked to serve, had actually planned to enlist as a private) to defend Virginia.
I like the bike. I think it is cool.

9 coats of paint, all sanded and beautiful.
Nice components.
I think it's great. and i'm not even a Dukes of Hazard fan.
What was the original frameset? Or did I miss that?
For all your work, I hope it was/is a great rider.
And nobody hardly sees the saddle when it's being ridden.

This is my fourth Rustoleum bike. I forget how stressful it is after it's done. Poor lighting, lack of space as I have no studio or garage. But yeah, it is amazing how smooth it turns out. The Penetrol added to the enamel for final coat really helps the paint level out. This may be my best bike paint job.

For the record; I have no reason to believe xetaprime is racist or a white supremacist. He did a spectacular job of painting and restoring his bicycle, and he did it as a tribute to the car in the television show, "The Dukes of Hazard". The television show glossed over and ignored the evils of slavery as practiced by the nation and people the livery of the car alludes to.
And because of the show didn't concern itself with "that peculiar institution", to some people the "Stars and Bars", General Lee and the Confederacy simply suggest a rebellious spirit, "states rights" or the right to dissent.
But the descendants of slaves who were kidnapped and stolen, stripped of their cultural heritage as well as their humanity, torn from their families and family histories, physically and mentally tortured and abused, those descendants suffered through generation upon generation of slavery, followed by the criminally biased social structure and social codes left in slavery's wake. And it is only in the very most recent decades that some sort of equality has been reached.
Just this Christmas my mother-in-law explained to my grand kids that they didn't hang stockings by the fireplace growing up in Texas in the 1930s, because they didn't think Santa Claus bothered with black folks. My father-in-law had some frightening stories about making produce delivers as a teenager and being met on numerous occasions by shotgun yielding "good ol' boys" teasingly threatening to hang him.
My wife is just old enough to have learned to read in time to recognize the "white" and "colored" water fountains in the Texas town she grew up in and which one was for her and her family. Hint...it was the old rusty ones.
So excuse me if I get offended and upset over Confederate imagery.

You are also not smart enough to figure out that most of the internet articles are full of bs (because of liars like you)
Lee wanted to fight for Virginia (believing that states had rights too).

The notion that there was a distinction between state's rights and slavery as issues was entirely a post-war invention to justify the lost cause mythology. This revisionism was so wrapped up in Jim Crow that I'm going to push back any time I see someone promoting this garbage.

Do you ever ask yourself defend Virginia from what? Lee was a traitor.

and what do you think this means?
states rights are still being fought to this day in the court systems for one cause or another (it’s a big part of our constitution and also our presidential elections)

All this talk would be fine in our Politics and Religion forum. But not in the General Cycling forum.
