Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have started carrying Tubolitos on all my bikes for this reason. They seem more resilient that normal tubes when stored on bikes for long periods. They are expensive but, better than a walk...

I was thinking of getting one of those until I read the user reviews. The concept sounds good but it appeared like their QC was a bit suspect.

I had a flat on Saturday and found I could not unscrew the flexible hose from my Lezyne pump. Had to use a CO2. I investigated when I got home and it took penetrating oil and a workout with the pliers to break it loose. Some white crusty aluminum corrosion apparently. I put a little grease on all the threads, just something else to check periodically.

This might be why your tube was split before it was even used...cheap ebay stuff? Maybe.

Sounds like you found a pump you like, but wanted to mention the easiest pump to use is a Topeak Road Morph:

You flip out the foot peg and let gravity do a lot of the work in pushing down. The full size version will bring you to 120psi. The mini version is more like 60psi but it's smaller.

Gluelessless patches are the best because you don't have a glue tube that dries out after you open it the first time. Glue patches theoretically last longer but it doesn't really matter when you go to glue your 2nd flat can't get the tube to open.
