If you can't tell the difference between a part designed to work a certain way and modifying something in a way it was never designed for, you probably shouldn't be trying your hand at mechanics.

Lefty forks are designed not to twist, and the wheel axle is larger and molded as part of the fork arm as a single piece. They also require special hubs.
