Bikes: Wow, where to start? A collection of 1980's and early 90's road, touring, and MTBs from the likes of Trek, Schwinn, Cannondale, Fuji, Miyata, Univega, Panasonic, and GT. It has gotten rather out of control.

While moving stuff in the house during a remodeling project I realized I have some stickers from my Seattle days on my old Craftsman toolbox. I worked for the blue and yellow sticker.

I know from posting on other forums that it can happen (with CL pix, too), but figure some folks might want to see them in the meantime. What I try to do is to use the snipping tool and paste the Snip in a post. Works in that other forum but not so well here.

The flash makes it hard to read, but this is the Ardmore Bicycle Shop; the 215 area code is Philly. it is affixed to a 1985 Schwinn Traveler mixte (actually "sports style") frame.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a shop sticker/chainstay protector. That’s the shop I used to lurk around in when I was a kid. Bought my first mountain bike there. Don’t remember them ever carrying Bridgestone.

It's not so easy to read because of how reflective the sticker is, but this is from the Aries Bicycle Shop that once operated in the south hills of Pittsburgh.

Thanks for sharing this!
Shop was operated by two Scots for many years and catered to serious cyclists even before "the boom" hit.
IIRC they retired and moved home to Scotland sometime in the later eighties - cannot recollect the specific year.
This transfer was a stock pattern offered by a trade association. Dealer's could send in the information they wanted printed on it and save on the setup cost of having a transfer designed from scratch.
Ironically, it was also employed by a neighbouring Menlo Park establishment - Joselyn's. The latter was more of a "Mom & Pop" neighbourhood shoppe.

thank you!
wonder if perhaps they expanded to a second location during the boom or if they moved from MP to PA?
recall the MP location as being on the E side of El Camino Real and in a pinkish red coloured structure
cannot remember ever visiting the PA location
evidently the Paly was a cape tosser stockist
another reader is sure to know
its now been a few decades () since me last visit to MP

Do you happen to know if the Menlo Park Joselyn's was affiliated with the Joselyn's that was on Lighthouse Blvd in Monterey for many decades?
I vaguely remember when Sugden and Lynch closed. Some of my friends in college used to talk about that place all the time. I think maybe I went inside once.

Yeah, Joselyn's in Monterey had the same spelling, and I think they may have even had the same sticker. They were the local Peugeot and Raleigh shop FWIW. Wouldn't surprise me if it was founded by the same Joselyn, though at this point it might be difficult to find out.
A lot of my friends when I was in college (SFSU) had grown up on the peninsula and used to talk about all the old shops there, including Sugden and Lynch. As I said, I think I stumbled in there once probably towards the end.
Do you know Ed Litton? I remember him coming into one shop I used to work at to pick up frames. Nice guy. (I'm sure he doesn't remember me - just one of the mechs in the back...)

Here is an excerpt from a 2009 article/interview in the Monterey Herald with the last owner of Joselyn's before they closed down in 2012:
Pinto is the fourth owner of Joselyn”s. And while the shop”s name may lend itself to being owned by a woman, its long legacy dates to the family name of original owners in England. They were brothers Pete and Les Joselyn.
Pinto knows some of the store”s history, but his research efforts have been stalled by sketchy records and the deaths of former owners and their family members.
To the best of Pinto”s knowledge, the business first opened on the Peninsula in the 1940s. Prior to its current location on E. Franklin Street, it was situated on Lighthouse Avenue on the border of Monterey and Pacific Grove.
