Will shedding 1lb of belly fat have the same results as taking 1lb off my bike?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

For no apparent reason this made me think of a joke from the old Batman series from the sixties.

It is in the form of a riddle.
There are three men in a boat with two cigarettes and no matches - How do they smoke?
Answer: Throw one cigarette over board and make the boat a cigarette lighter.

Losing a pound off the belly will be an advantage 100% of the time. A pound off the bike is an advantage only when you are riding.

That actually came up about 10 posts back, minus the $10 word.

Tell me about it. When I go home after a rigorous workout I'll eat everything in the fridge. Seems like it just stimulates my appetite too much.

Really? A long hard effort on the bike will make me lose my appetite. I'll be ravished the next day, but I have to force myself to eat something shortly after.

It is a trick question, you can't spot reduce and Lose a pound of fat from the belly only.

Think of all the other weight you'll lose in the process of losing that pound of belly fat though.

You're faster if you lose the pound off the bike because that also involves losing weight from your wallet.

Sure you can. Liposuction isn't just for the trophy wives, it's for the weekend warriors too.

FWIW, I have found a 10 pound loss is equivalent to being able to ride up an 8% grade in the next highest gear. (This doesn't deconvolve weight loss from strength gain, but since I am 54, I think it is primarily weight loss.)
Good to know mate! I am trying to lose some and getting more exercise (on the bike of course!) as well as eating less is my strategy.

Coolsculpting is much better than lipo for that.

You get slower uphill by losing weight and don't get hungry after long, hard rides.

Do you get more pinch flats with higher pressure?

Yeah, I'm an enigma. No way loss of appetite from high intensity training could be a thing.

if I go for a ride on my 17lb bike on monday and I weigh 200lb all geared up and ready to ride

then friday I go for a ride on my 18lb bike and I take a 1lb dump prior to the ride I will be ~1lb~ lighter at 199lb

it will still take the same amount of watts to move me and the bike since combined we are still 217lbs, fitness has nothing to do with it. everyone seems to want to assume it will take training and etc to lose a pound and you'll be stronger because of it. with regard to whether weight loss on the bike versus the rider (all else being equal) will be a net gain/loss of zero.
