Just stumbled across this thread and thought I'd share my latest project - cross-post from the MTB forum I guess! I hope rebuilds of vintage/classic MTBs still count for this thread?!
A neighbor gave me a 1994 Specialized HardRock to do whatever I wanted to with it. Here's what I did...
Here's what it looked like when I got it:
Here's the glamour shots I took today to post it for sale. Hope you like how it turned out as much as I do!

Here is my rock hopper drop bar conversion. both are very smooth. This one needs just a little more seat post and then she will be perfect.

lol - well, I like a good project, and if I'm going to try to sell it, might as well really make nice for someone to shred on. Hopefully someone will snag it soon - I don't have any room in my garage to keep it!

Very nice bike. If she doesn't like the straight bar (i.e. anyone not a downhiller), a good swept bar would likely appeal. I love my V-O Porteur bar; I find it quite comfortable for longer rides.

1989 Kona Cinder Cone
New paint, decals and clear coat. Mostly LX mountain parts. Avid Shorty 4 brakes. 3x8 friction shift.
Had no parts, just a frame and fork with half the paint gone. It lives again!

The Kona Cinder Cone in its natural habitat. Frame serial number points to Fairly manufacture in 1989.

^^^^^ Quick stem paint job?
I have one of those, frameset only, sitting in the basement; this reminds me that I REALLY should build it up. Do you think the Altus driveline and the linear pull brakes are original?

I painted the stem and bars, the bike had spent some time sitting outside before I got it. I have no idea what is original on the bike, someone put street tires on it so maybe more has been changed.

It's been a while since I've posted, so here's the current status of most of my vintage mountain bikes. There are plenty of others, but they haven't quite been refurbished yet. I've also got a couple of Stumpjumpers on the way for future projects. Always lots of projects going.

Couldn't resist this '89 Bianchi Incline in metallic celeste when I saw it on Craigslist a while back. Basically all original except for the stem and bars, which look like an "original" upgrade made by someone back in the day. Just added a Brooks, racks and bags, and took it out to the abandoned PA Turnpike last weekend. Really fun ride.
(Happy coincidence that my well worn Cambium saddle matched the existing bar wrap too!)

Cool build. What is the front and rear rack?
