Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Chase Field is the cheapest ballpark in America. I never pay to park, I park 0.4 miles away for free. Bargain beers are $5 for 12oz Coors Light in a plastic cup but they sometimes run out entirely by the 3rd inning and on better days you can only find it at one or two of the beer stands. 24oz can of beer is $17.

I love my new house, it's a gem compared to a lot of stuff we looked at, but most of the outlets are not grounded and there's no way I'm tackling that job. Most of these walls are beautifully wallpapered and I am not f'ing that up. I found ways to workaround the grounds. lol

I've been hearing that since I was a ute. I remember when American cars started switching over to metric. Nuts and bolts on the engine were metric and the rest of the car was still imperial. That was silly.
Not to mention those of us who did mostly domestic had to buy new tools again.

I'm not a big fan of the mile.

I still prefer fractional inches to mms. And I still prefer F to C for air and water temps

All true. We were talking garages though. And I was talking new installations. Not being a real electrician, I would not consider doing anything post drywall. How did it pass code without grounded outlets? Tixkokob is the only place I've run into that. Even in rural se Ohio, with no electric code, everything was grounded.
Here, things are not grounded because there is no romex; they run single strands. That third strand adds to the cost that poor people would rather not pay. And frequently they don't bother with differently colored wire. Our house is wired entirely in red. Had we known the custom going in, things would be different.

Probably an older home. I used to live in a home built in 1917, the electric in there was "interesting"

I lived in a slightly older home that still had all the gas lighting hardware in it. Pretty cool stuff

I heard the nosebleed seats for last night's game were going for $250.

Interestingly, last night there was a trifecta of events at the stadium complex. In addition to the baseball game, there was a friendly soccer match between Mexico and Germany and a hockey game. The hockey game star was moved up to 6 pm so that crowd, many members of which drive over from NJ, would get out before the other two events. One figure I heard was that there was close to 150,000 people in the stadium area last night. A caller into a morning radio show said it took her 2.4 hours to get home after the ballgame.

The city transportation authority suspended fare collection on the subway line that leads to the complex. to encourage people to take it instead of drive.

Wow, down to $9 today. Probably because of the humiliation last night. Also people were probably pricing based off of the sellout with the Dodgers, that was probably 60% Dodgers fans though, and no way you're gonna sell as many tix to Phillies fans.

Got sick Monday afternoon. Headache, major body aches, and GI involvement. Had to skip the ride yesterday and thinking about going out now for a spin.

Haven't been sick like this since 2019. Maybe it's being retired or maybe the masks. Used to be sick with respiratory crap every year when I was working.

Phillies fans travel in droves. Same with the Eagles. Several years ago, the Eagles played the Dolphins in Miami. By the sound of the cheering, there were at least as many (if not more) Eagles fans at the game. Even the TV announcers noted it.

Prepped a Santa Maria style tri-tip last night. It was pretty cheap at the store untrimmed today (on sale) and the wife and I enjoy the recipe. It's rubbed (overnight) with essentially a modified chili powder, then it will get grilled tonite (charcoal). After the sear, switch to low side for 20-30 min, flip and baste every few min w red wine vinegar, olive oil, mustard and minced garlic emulsion. It will get served with arugula salad, roasted potatoes and a full bodied red.

I recall in 1975-ish in 5th grade they spent a lot of teaching time to teach us the metric system, and they told us we would be “fully converted” by 1980.

Did not happen, of course.

Working in science, I ended up fairly fluent in metric, but honestly it would have been nice if we could have converted, but, you know, we can't let furriners take away our inches and pounds. Hell, I'm surprised Standard Time caught on.
