I have to wait for it till Wednesday so I was going through a bit of buyer's remorse. I'm seventy-one and wondered if I'll actually use it or something physically will come up to prevent me from using it. Today, thank goodness that's passed. I'll make it work and at least I'll enjoy using it no matter how long I last. When I get off my elliptic (which I've been using every day for seven years) I feel great; the bike should be even more fun. Thanks for the encouragement.

The weather in the Washington DC area can reach over 100 degrees in July and August with humidity in the high nineties. This is very dangerous, especially for us geezers. I want to keep the riding going and not quit for the weather extremes to recede.

I've lived here in the Northern VA / DC area for almost 25 years, I know of what you speak. And I'm nearly 61 years old myself. I'm only suggesting you integrate the bike with the rest of your workouts...keep the elliptical...if you ride outside when it's hot, just keep them shorter (30 miles or less). OTOH, if the money doesn't matter, go ahead and buy the trainer. I have one, for the very coldest weather (around here not so bad). I use it maybe once or twice a year. It's also a good way to learn cadence pedaling, watching dvds of Italy and France....

One guy I ride with is 73, and he's gotten back on the bike three different times: after two back surgeries, and one crash (recovering from that was 5 or 6 surgeries). Another guy in our group is around 75, and got back on the bike after suffering a heart attack on one of the rides.
A couple of weeks ago a different friend of mine was mountain biking (he's pretty fit, a good climber), and a 69-year-old woman, who rides six days a week, kicked his @ss on a 25 mile MTB ride with about 3,000 feet of climbing. It sucks getting old, but riding can sure make a difference.

Just got my first pair of bib shorts. Very comfy in the saddle compared to before and definitely moving around a lot less. Feel like I can go twice the distance!

I've been wondering why bib shorts are so much better. Because there's no waistband to fold over or get bunched up? Any other reasons?

I just bought a new drive train for my bike.
Upgrading from 3x8 speed Sora/2300 to 2x10 speed Microshift/Tiagra.
Tiagra 4600 FD and RD
Tiagra 4600 11-25 Cassette
FSA Vero 50/34 Crankset
Microshift/Nashbar 10 speed shifters.
And a KMC 10 speed chain.
I'm very excite.

SON dynohub (and a wheel around it) and a Supernova E3, which are getting installed today. Need to figure out how to make it as easy on/off as possible since I don't think I'll want to leave it on all the time, although I might.

So if you dropped the middle bottle on the floor, you could then say that you really "droped the hammer" and dialed it up to 400W?

I don't usually write in about all the junk I buy for a bike, but I finally made a decision on a rear tail light after buying the Cateye LD1100, Serfas Shield, and the Light & Motion Vis 180 (not the micro). Took all three home and tested them and immediately the Cateye was done for, it just wasn't as bright as the other two. The Serfas Shield was a pretty good light but it didn't seem as intense as the Vis 180 plus the side lighting wasn't as good, nor did it cast a red glow onto the pavement or the sides of buildings like the Vis180. So I took those back and kept the Vis180 which I mounted to my seat bag. I tested the Vis 180 today in broad daylight and the darn thing looked like one of those flares you see on the side of the road for emergency use, it was quite intense. Also tested it against my friends MagicShine tail light and the Vis 180 was more intense. It will now be my main light which means I'll leave it on the steady mode at night and flash during the day when I ride busy highways or city streets. I think there are better ones like the NiteFlux 8, or the Dinotte 300R but both of those cost at least $50 more but I didn't want to go above $100; besides I use a Planet Bike Turbo Flash on my helmet, Soma Road Flares in the bar ends, and a Cateye LD600 on the seat post which may get removed if I can't see it working at night with the Vis 180 on which I will test that aspect tonight.

a Giant MTB for the gf last weekend. Best 460$ I had spent recently until yesterday when she wrecked on the local trails and I had to walk two MTB's out of the trails and a limping girl friend.
latest road bike purchase: bontrager floor pump. finally decided to stop firing up the 30 gallon compressor everytime my road bike needed an extra 20psi on the tires
