Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We had a chilly and wet ride today. We also had two flats, one was mine.

Even so, it was a fine time. It was my first rainy ride in my new Assos winter jacket, and it did seem to be reasonably water resistant. It’s not quite the awesome marigold jacket, but good enough for me.

In Missouri, there is Uranus Fudge Factory. The billboards for miles and miles each way on I-44 are hilarious.

We're packing up to head back to Illinois tomorrow and we're trying to clean up the perishables which makes for some interesting meals. I've had sardines and eggs this morning and just had sardines on a tortilla with a slice of havarti cheese. We do have a frozen pizza yet to eat so supper is sorted.

Daylight savings is silly. Once I get a thought in my head, I just seem to roll with it. I rode to the ride start today and figured it would be warmer due to everything being an hour later. Or earlier. Or whatever this nonsense is. Either way, it was a cold son of a gun getting there, but it warmed up nicely. My logic went out the window with the clock, it appears.

Don’t you wonder how joyless your life is that you have to go on a website and try to correct their pronunciation of Uranus?

I’ll bet they’re a hoot at a party.

I use the British pronunciation of Uranus, because otherwise I can't talk about it without feeling like a middle schooler.

Forgot to mention. This morning I planned on riding my emonda. Grab the bike and put it on the ground, rear tire is flat.

Grab the new madone, put that one the ground, rear tire is flat.

Ended up taking the old madone.

So I just pulled the tube o it of the emonda. Pump it up, no leak, put it in water, no bubbles. weird. The tire is such a PITA to get off I would have preferred a massive gash. I’m gunna put air in the old tube and leave it out tonight to see if it goes down.

Madone, I put air in it and so far it seems to be okay, just really weird for it to be completly flat.

Billie Eilish's performance of "What was I made for?" during the Oscars was nearly as emotional and raw and the Grammy performance. Delicate yet powerful, beautiful, so moving.

As long as it stays as-is, I'm fine. They need to leave it alone now.

Being in AZ, we didn't change clocks.

The good news is that tomorrow morning, I'll be getting up at regular time. The bad news is that now I have to cross two time changes going east instead of one.

An old story told a number of times. I was in a phase of riding a century every Sunday. During the week the rear tire went flat. Pumped it up and rode the century. Next week rear tire is flat. Pumped it up and rode the century. Etc.

Sometimes I have tires lose all their air if not ridden for a while. Just pump them up and go.
