Nice job holding it upright FF. Glad you are ok.

i know it's useless to compare HR and I really just need to do an ltHR test...but about what HR are you guys at for steady tempo efforts? I think i have a really slow heart. It'll be interesting to see what it looks like from the cross race i'm doing this weekend.

CTL is ~60, but ive been adding my runs to wko and the running threshold pace might be off...whether or not it helps on the bike I don't know, but I would like to think it does

Looking back at my last actual tempo workout (In March...) looks like I averaged 165 for 35 minutes of tempo (with "sprints")

lmfao i don't even think my max was 165 from this morning (granted it was a pretty steady effort and on a fixed gear, but not easy). maybe i just suck at pushing myself?

It's so variable that it's basically impossible to say, it entirely depends on your max heart rate and your current threshold HR. Gotta do a LT test while fresh and snag the HR from that. The other thing that makes it tough is if you're even a bit tired your HR doesn't respond the same as it does when you're fresh, so to do tempo you in part need to remember what tempo feels like when fresh and go off PE if your HR is being funky.

Tempo is around 150-160 for me when I am in shape. Right now it's probably 210.
If your HR hits a wall and won't go up under increasing effort, that's a sure sign that you need rest.

you guys ride a lot more than me: 45 / -10. Mark my words: I will eventually upgrade to cat2 road and track without breaking a CTL of 70!!!

I had planned on putting a bunch of big rides (~12 hrs in three rides) between this morning and the weekend, but I'm definitely fighting something off; there's something going around at work. Mother ****ers.
This morning was supposed to be 3hrs of mid z2, hard on climbs, but I felt pretty bad all day yesterday and last night. I'm hoping that I can feel better by this evening so I can just swap todays ride for tomorrow, which was a planned day off.
It sucks so hard to not ride when you really want to - but I know I made the right decision. In previous lives, I would have got up at 5:30 anyway, hammered out my ride, then developed a severe flu by mid day.

Yeah, there's more to it than CTL of course. It helps when your target races are <60min. My bread and butter are interval workouts that are always under 2hr and 150TSS.
My template when going good is two (consecutive) days of intervals, one long or group ride on the weekend, and one or two easy rides.

Yurp, I treat it as a measurement of my fitness against my past self. Against others it doesn't matter nearly as much. On Sunday my CTL hit 86 for the first time since mid Feb, and my FTP is + 15W since then, so I know I'm flying relative to myself. I haven't seen a CTL of 80 with a neutral TSB since mid Feb either.

I'm confused.
Isn't the offseason the exact wrong time to care about CTL?
