Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Coppi Neuron

Here's my latest personal build.

It's a 2009 Coppi Neuron steel frame / full carbon fork. Running a DA / Ultegra 10 drivetrain. American Classic CR-420 wheels. Bike with pedals, two cages and computer weighs in at 18.4 lbs. Not bad for a steel frame.

It's a 63cm, I have a 37.5" Cycling inseam (I'm 6'4") I tried out alot of sizes/brands, and the 60cm version of the CAAD9 felt like a clown bike under me, including hitting my knees on the bars coming up out of the saddle

I've got 2 Giants and a Pedal Force travel bike. Just sold a Felt FC to make room for the new Giant. (also posted in racing thread)

The King is Dead - ’08 TCR Advanced

16lbs, 2oz as pictured: Ritchey WCS aluminum cockpit, Di2, SRAM Red brakes, DA 7800 crankset (175mm), SRM, DA 7810 pedals, Selle SMP Evolution saddle , Edge 1.45 clinchers, 20/24, DT Swiss 240s

Long live the King - ’10 TCR Advanced SL (ISP)

14lbs, 6oz as pictured: Ritchey WCS aluminum cockpit, SRAM Red, ee brakes, Rotor 3d crankset (titanium spindle, 175mm), KCNC chain rings and bolts, Quarq Cinqo, DA 7810 pedals, Selle SMP Evolution saddle , Edge 1.38 tubulars, 20/24, DT Swiss 240s

Need to make a final cut of the steerer tube and put in the final spacers. Still waiting for Edge to send my 1.68 tubulars with DT Swiss 190 ceramic bearings!

Unfortunately, I dropped the ball when I ordered the Rotor cranks and didn’t specify a red cap, so they sent me gold?! Will either go back to running the gold KMC X10SL chain and get some gold chainring bolts or order red caps for the cranks.

Holy crap that bag is huge. What do you carry in it? (i should probably note my first bag was almost that big, but I downsized realizing I didn't need the tons of space it had).

My Colnago Master

Just finished building this up yesterday. Pretty much fulfills a fantasy I've had since I was cutting out the latest Colnago, Pinarello and De Rosa adverts and posting them on my bedroom walls in the late 80s. Thought about doing a more retro looking build up (i.e., the new Campy Athena), but decided only Record would do. Got the frame from Maestro in the UK. Mike is an absolute gentleman and the frame is mint. Beyond that, if you are going to get a steel bike, you need to source through someone who can do a top notch frame prep, which he did (including chasing every thread and installing the BB cups and the headset). Once I fit it at home, I had the fork steerer and seatpost cut at my new fave bike shop in NYC, Continuum Cycles in the East Village. They are great guys and great mechanics. Building up Campy 11-speed myself was not too hard, other than the fact that they use Torx T25 all over the groupo and the front derailleur is a b*tch to get the trimming right. Took it around a couple blocks last night and it rides like an absolute dream. I'm sure some of it is psychology, but it definitely beat my expectations. Anyway, here it is:
Saronni Master.jpg
58cm (C-to-T) Colnago Master Saronni paint job
Campy Record 11-speed
Campy Eurus Two-Way fit
Hutchinson Fusion 2 Tires (required all my former bike mechanic tricks to mount these, btw)
Deda Zero Seat Post, Stem (100mm), and Bar
Brooks Racing Saddle
Look Carbon Keo pedals
Elite Ciussi cages
Stella Azzurra bar tape (very cool look...real pain to wrap with, IMHO)
