The hardest 3hr training rides I've got on record are 207TSS with an IF of .83 with a ton of crazy intervals, and 210TSS with 1x1hr @ 90% and 2x30 @ 90%, for an IF of .81. Doing that stuff hurts, a lot. It's within the realm of possibility that you're riding tempo all the time, but if that's the case I would suspect you must feel awfully flat all the time.

It was hard, I was tired. I rode 2 more hours on Sunday @ 150 TSS. My heart rate is a horrible guide for anything, it just doesn't go very high, even when racing. I don't know why I bother wearing the strap anymore.
My Max Power numbers for information purposes.
Max 1,336 5 sec. 1,179 1min: 510 20min: 277.

given that i do my workouts by feel and rarely look at the PMC i think i really only use my power meter to measure changes in my curve over time, so whatever i set my FTP to is probably largely irrelevant. however, on the internet most training plans/advice/etc is usually going to be based off of the FTP being comparable to some standard, so if you want help from others its probably beneficial to conform.

FTP is 265. I weigh 160 lbs give or take. FTP is set correctly in TP, Strava, and garmin connect. I bump my ftp 2 watts up in trainerroad every week but otherwise it's the same. With shorter efforts I mean, there is a slight hill, I stomp on the pedals to go over it then back to normal riding, repeat a million times per ride.
even if you use the FTP to set interval targets you still do them by feel, as in if you do all 5 or whatever and it feels super easy, you aim higher next time. if you are unable to do 5 (or howevermany) because they feel too hard, you shift downward. FTP is only a starting point and TSS : guy A /= TSS : guy B.
I have relatively poor 0-1min power and a high threshold. Riding next to my friend who is the opposite, he comes away, on the same unstructured ride, with significantly higher TSS because much more of the time is spent in the higher zones.
Comparing TSS and CTL from person to person is an exercise in semantics. Comparing yourself to yourself-3 months is the way to go, imo.

Try aiming for 300+ on your next FTP test, maybe you will surprise yourself. If you can't get anywhere near it, I guess it just means you're good at piling on the tempo, which isn't really great training for the kind of races you intend to do. It might not matter though. Going back to your very first question...
... I'd say it just comes down to what you think your race limiters are. Do you regularly get blown out the back of crits after repeated surges? If so then yes, I would recommend focusing on vo2max and repeatability earlier than later. And not going so hard on your 3 hour training rides, because that takes up life force that you could be applying to working on your limiters.

I'm with you. Just when I think I am starting to be able to understand this thread with it's TSS, FTP and a bunch of numbers, along come graphs and I think I might be reading my kid's Algebra homework.
I'm over here just riding my bike, working, sleeping and eating. Hoping for the best :-)

got a couple of new saddles today from nashbar, the selle italia q-bik and selle italia flow carbonio se. I'm favoring the q-bik so far (the cheapest) but am awaiting a couple of others tomorrow. After trying and being disappointed with fizik antares and arione, it's funny to see that cheaper ones are more comfortable for me.

16 minutes today at 440w. more all-time power curve. 83kg this morning, so take it with as many grains of salt as I put on all my food.
I was ~10s off my PR on the climb when a dump truck took a downhill left turn too tight and pinched me off the road. lost 27 seconds getting untangled from the bike and out of the ditch. Am completely unhurt aside from minor allergic irritation on my forearm where I landed in a pile of pine needles.

I was so mad at the interruption. Sub-16 on this climb has been a two-year goal. I was 16:09 a couple months ago and there is a hillclimb coming up where I will get to start in the first group of 10-12 guys. I need to hang with the fastest of them for as long as possible to get the extra 20 seconds. Today I thought I could get 16:15, which would have been a confidence builder given the current KG situation. Oh wells.
