Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Finally, after a 15 month wait on Dave Anderson's waiting list, Dave built my frame, fork, and stem from Reynolds 953 stainless steel. The top tube is slightly sloped at 4-degrees and the front fork and rear triangle will accommodate up to 33c tires or 28c tires with fenders. The wheel base is slightly long for its size but the head tube and seat tube angle are exact matches of my other bikes.

The remaining bits took about six months to bring together: An autoshop tried their best to paint-match the handle bar to the frame. Richard Craig of Prowheelbuilder built my wheels on which I have mounted Vittoria Open Pave 28c tires. I managed to find a chrome-railed Selle Anatomica Titanico-X saddle. I am using Shimano long-reach brakes for the wider tires and fenders I intend to use in the future. The silver Campagnolo Athena 11 crank was chosen for aesthetic reasons but seems to be working nicely with the rest of the Sram Red 22 drivetrain.

After a 1000 miles, all I can say is that: Steel sings. Titanium hums. Carbon is light.

Really a beautiful bike - gorgeous.

Super excited, the plan is Dave is going to have my frame complete by the end of Feb. I'm planning on building it out in March with a Ultegra Di2 group and then it's time to ride. Can't wait.

Got mine about 2 weeks ago. I use it for the times I want a " Caddy" ride. Stock tires are 32mm with that frame makes for a luxury ride compared to the stiff Carbon SL4 Sirrus frame I had.

I picked up this LeMond Zurich 2000 on eBay in 2011, and have been enjoying it since, with small mods:
- Cane Creek Volos wheelset
- New compact crankset, cassette and chain to run with original Shimano Ultegra components.
- Replaced original Selle Italia saddle with Selle Anatomica X saddle
- Replaced original TTT quill stem with a shorter TTT stem

The prior owner was a racer and installed the Cane Creek Volos wheelset, which is no longer made or supported. I really like the way it spins, so figured out how to rebuild it when the rear rim cracked.

Can I Join?

1987 Schwinn Peloton recently redone by a local framebuilder to clean up rust and respace the drop outs. Thanks Maestro Frameworks in Pittsburgh. Also, sorry for the crappy phone pictures.

Beautiful! I love that light blue color.

I think you may have a 1986 Peloton since the Peloton didn't appear in the 1987 model lineup. What is the four digit number lightly stamped into the head badge in very small font?

The Peloton was the model just below the Paramounts in 1986 and was built using Columbus SL and SP tubing.

I'm sorry I totally mistyped, it's actually a Schwinn Prelude. I don't know why the peloton was on my mind. Just a few grades down from the Peloton with Columbus Tenax tubing.

So much fun to see all the cool steel bikes people have!

1993 KHS Montana Descent

I converted this old mountain bike into a gravel touring bike. I'm still waiting to install some beefy tires with less tread to make road-riding more acceptable.

I also have a couple classic lugged late-80s Treks in my stable that I will post when I can find some good pictures of them.

'93 Marinoni Special. Original owner, built for me. Have been riding it on and off for 23 years. Still fits me perfectly, and is my go-to bike for centuries and very long rides. I used it in 2010 on the Ride to Conquer Cancer, 290 km in two days from Montreal to Quebec City, and for 450 km of riding with my son in Tuscany in 2009. I tend to use it more in the flats now, my 58-y.o. legs prefer the compact crank on my CF bike.

I do now, though, own a late 70's early 80's (still can't pin point the year) Mirage Sport with internal top tube cable routing (!).
