Thank you for your reply. That would make sense as I bought it in Copenhagen so it cannot have travelled so far since it was imported.

There are very few decals remaining but I believe the frame to be an Olympic model. The tubing is Tange Champion No.1, and the current set up has it running on Mavic rims and hubs with everything else comprised of mixed Dura Ace. I doubt that any of this is original, but the frame is still in very good condition. I'd imagine this would realistically make it a 1982 model?

Yes, it probably is 1982. You can post pictures to the forum, they just won't appear in this thread. But I still access them. I don't much about the European markets at this time but in America the Olympic was an upper entry level model. The American models also didn't get proper Tange decals but generic tubing decals. Still, your bicycle would be about the equivalent of the USA market Professional/Ultimate or Comp II.

I just got this and it is missing the maker and model decals. However, by the equipment and serial number (KA05251) it should be a 1981 Compe II. Derailleurs and saddle have been replaced.

Nishiki Safari

Let the summer project begin...Seat post is jammed all the way down;-(

Rusty old rear rack and genuine Kawamura fenders.

I'll clean this up and see if it works down the road.

Ah dang it, I should have taken some pictures. At the coop they have a Nishiki Road Comp frame yellow frame black head tube with chrome head-lugs and wrap around seatstays. The frame was double butted, still had an American Eagle decal at the bb. Quite impressive I'll say. I told the coop guys that it was a top flight of its brand of the day.

Next time I go back I'll shoot some pictures, if it's still there in a few weeks I'll probably buy it, or they'll force me to take it away.

Nishiki International #cj01637. I can’t see it being 1980, is it? Not sure what’s original components. It had xce Cantis and derailleurs. 700c araya rims

Can anyone identify my frame?

Hey together. So many nice bikes - so much knowledge. Seems like a nice place to join.
I hope anyone can help me:

Serial number EJ103194
Nishiki engraved on the dropouts around where the quick release goes through.
Screws on the dropouts
Chrome on the fork blades and on the dropouts - couldn’t find a matching frame on the internet.
Chrome all over under the paint.
Mixed shimano parts: dura ace, 600
Mavic Rims and super record hubs
No original decals

As I’m not allowed to post photos or links: you can download an image of the frame here on wetransfer. Just add https to the beginning:

://we.tl/t-Lw8fx8Tgg9

I’d love to know more about the frame as I‘m thinking of a restoration.

Thanks in advance. Hans

The serial number would appear to indicate 1990 as the International did not use cantilever brakes in 1980 but did in 1990. Both the 1990 & 1991 Canadian market versions of the International were spec'd with SunTour XCE but I have the 1990 catalogue and the graphics don't match, so I suspect this is a 1991 model manufactured in late 1990. FYI, according to the product list, the MSRP was $750 CDN and the tubing under that generic decal is Tange 900.

Hans, welcome to the forums. The serial number, in combination with the frame features, indicates a European market model manufactured in 1980 and at least mid-range in level. The European Nishiki were spec'd by the importer. This makes it difficult to identify for most forum members, who are based in North America, and it is further complicated by low photo resolution and mixed components. The only component which I can positively identify from the non-drive side photo is Shimano AX series front brake caliper. However, this does not appear to be OEM, as I can't identify any other AX series components, including the brake levers. The presence of brake safety levers seem inappropriate for the level of the frame. Additional, better resolution pictures of the major components may help but the probability is low given a European model and mixed components.

That's very neat stamping for owner application. The format reminds of the product numbers used by some of the larger chains, such as Sears. Is that corrosion around the edges and in the numbers or just grease? If corrosion, that suggests this set of numbers was stamped after the painting operation and is probably not factory applied. You should be able to increase your confidence one way or the other by comparing the impressions to the proper serial number for font style, font size and paint fill.

I can't post photos until I post 10 times...lol. I have a Cascade from 1989-1991 with gray, black, & white speckled paint and pink lettering. It's very unique.

Nishiki Saga - Seeking Info

Just picked up this Nishiki Saga. Fair to good condition, and AFAIK mostly original except for the saddle, rear wheel, and maybe the front wheel. I can't find an old catalog listing to verify what the stock wheels should be.

Model: Saga - Richard Cunningham design

Size: seat tube 56 cm c-t-c, top tube 58 cm c-t-c

Frame Material: Tange MTB Double Butted Cr-Mo "throughout"

Shifters: Suntour Accushift Barcons - 6 speed

Crankset: Suntour XCE Triple

Front Derailleur: Suntour 4050 XCE

Rear Derailleur: Suntour Accushift 4050 XCE

Brakes: Suntour XCD cantilever

Brake Levers: Dia Compe BRS Edge

Serial #: S90 504143, on seat tube

Looking for decoded Serial # info and original equipment list or link to catalog listing. Thanks in advance for any info.

The serial number is actually DS90 504143. Your frame was manufactured by Dodsun of Taiwan in May 1989. As a sanity check, the decal scheme is consistent with 1989, as is that version of the SunTour XCE derailleur. The latter was redesigned for 1990 and the Saga does not appear in my 1990 price list. Unfortunately, I don't have a 1989 US market catalogue. It does not appear in the 1989 Canadian market catalogue but there were often differences between these two markets.

T-Mar - Thanks for catching my error on the serial number - my eyesight is not so good and my camera skills are worse.

I now believe the front wheel is original based on a old internet "for sale" post (Araya RM-20 rim described matches my bike).

Not a lot of info on this model on the interwebs. I seem to recall reading that only 500 were made. This frame has lots of potential, with front and rear rack bosses, 3 set of water bottle bosses, a behind-the-seat-tube pump peg, and good tire clearance. With the right brakes it might accept a 650B wheelset.

Nishiki Saga - Seeking Info about stock rear wheel

Any guesses as to the specs of the original rear hub (brand, spacing, freewheel/cassette, QR/bolt-on, spoke count)?

Whatever it was had to be compatible with 6-speed Suntour Accushift, so I'm guessing it was maybe Suntour or one of their OEMs (Sansin/Sunshine?) with a Suntour freewheel. The front hub has no markings on it, so I get no clues from that. The rear spacing is 135mm, but I'm not sure if it was spread to accommodate the bolt-on "department store bike"-grade rear wheel

For now I'd like to keep this bike as stock as possible but not necessarily restored to original, so all I currently need to do is replace the rear wheel. However, finding a good quality silver 135mm, 6 speed, QR hub may be a challenge, even if (as I understand) the Shimano 6 speed cog spacing is the same as Suntour non-Ultra 6 speed. I'll check my favorite LBS, of course. I'm building another bike ('84 Trek 620) with 6 speed Suntour barcons, and 6 speed cassette stuff is sorta rare, so 6 speed freewheel is probably the way I should go.

As always, any info is greatly appreciated.

My 83/84 Westwood, built with Tange Champion tubing. Info is a little scarce on these, but the manufacturing code is
1983. Suntour and Dia Compe parts. This particular one is near new, as close as I've seen on a vintage bike over 30 years old.
