We canceled our standard Mt Hamilton climb today, as there were warnings of dangerous winds. We did a bunch of short and steep climbs in the Santa Cruz Mountains foothills, instead. Similar vertical, similar distance, legs are thrashed.
And it looks like the crazy winds on Hamilton summit have subsided:

It was like 2 weeks no transport, then another week until stores actually had stock. All while hosting people who's house wasn't livable anymore.
Luckily I never lost power, and thus neither water, and thus never got the $150k repair bill.

tough break bampilot06 and phrantic09. Do either of you guys have any specific goals you are riding towards like a race or event? Having a specific training plan in place can help to create some motivation, and the natural ebb and flow of riding that ensues.
In the absence of that, trying to just hold some level of fitness and volume with strictly solo training at o'dark 30 sounds pretty tough, I think almost anyone would have trouble remaining motivated with that.
For me, I am not really thinking of that and just trying to prevent my legs from withering away. I have written away the 2024 race season and will still remain involved with my club as a volunteer, not a racer so much. Don't see myself leaving for 5-10+ weekends to go race while she is so little. Maybe in a year from now I will be in a good place to actually train.
Fortunately I do enjoy the trainer and am content just doing that when I can. datlas long rides will happen only when we have family visiting to help support mom while I sneak out - like today (at the parents). I do not think 5-6 hours is wise though given that I am still having to wake up twice per night and I need to work tomorrow. I'll go for 3-3.5.

Honestly, I need to get stronger. I know my fitness is good. My VO2 is 62 if that means anything. Also would like to up my sprint game. I know this requires intervals and I will admit with my schedule and my ego I am just to stuck on my mileage. I take pride in my mile count when I am only home 3-4 days a week but then I get angry when I don’t get the results I want. I am really good at talking in circles. Last year I had 10,100 miles, this year I have to beat that in my sick mind……
The first race of 2024 is in Feb, it’s a 35-65 mile road race. I need to start training for that.

Same here with lack of riding. I used to love racing and group rides, but now, after retiring and having a bunch of heart and lung issues, I'd be lucky if my FTP is 100. I'm doing the Tour of Watopia and am usually the Lanterne Rouge. It's depressing looking at my garage full of road bikes and not having enough ambition to go outside and use them.
Any of them 58?

Speaking of which, for some reason, DFW airport is always listed high up on these strike lists from other countries (like the leaked nork one). I'm close enough to be in the "instantly vaporized" zone, so I'm pretty sure I won't have to worry about surviving WWIII.

Dropped my next work trip, I’m making a doctors appointment tomorrow. I can’t take what ever this is. Hopefully a z pac will clear what ever this is.
In other news Simon is also sick. Ear infection, clogged tear ducts and what ever this is. He might need surgery if his tear duct doesn’t clear up by Wed. WTF.

That's the top of the strike list for anyone with nukes... might not be a good idea to be anywhere near there unless they actually let you into the mountain...

I'm not a prepper but I do wanna keep 30days food on hand. That big winter storm in Dallas a few years back convinced me. I need to get a drum or 2 for water some day.
