+1

That chain is the only one I've ever broken. It had about two miles on it and one of the side plates split in half while climbing a hill.

Some money, with 20% off. Probably paid too much but oh well. Sometimes you gotta support the local shops right?

Indeed. I was just having a discussion about this today at work, not just with the bike shop, but other things too. I don't really like shopping online unless they're having some crazy sale. I would rather go into a shop, pay for the item there, and leave with it. Browse around, talk to the people there, etc. I don't mind paying a bit more for those things, at all.

They were having a huge clear out sale. Technically this specific stem wasn't on sale. Guy working there hit me with the 20% off, and I jumped on it. More than likely could have found it online for cheaper, but the shop is pretty cool and they have treated my friend right from the start. I haven't bought much from them in the past as they carry brands that I don't normally ride like Cannondale and Scott.

Upgraded my '09 Langster last night with a used Ebay S-Works Barmac and new Sram 900 levers.

Road it to work this morning. The Barmac dampens the shots from the road nicely compared to the original aluminum bar/stem. And any concern about flex that I had is gone. These bastards laugh at the measly sprint power I generate. I'm really happy with it so far. On the other hand, the Sram levers....meh. They look slick and the drops are comfortable, but they feel kinda creaky when you pull them. I used cheap cables because that's what I had laying around. Maybe some teflon lined cables will help.

What do you mean by "feel creaky when you pull them?" Do you mean when you pull on the hoods like in a sprint or when climbing, or when you pull on the levers to brake?

I own the S500 levers - same as yours but aluminum, with Dura Ace calipers and el-cheapo Shimano cables and housing. Never felt what you describe either way - wrenching on the hoods or squeezing the levers.

What kinda calipers are you running?

I feel creak on my sram levers from time to time as well. Though, more like a tick than a creak. I was thinking it was maybe due to the bars I'm using.

Creaky when I pull the levers to brake. The bike still has the stock Tektro calipers that worked smoothly with the old Tektro levers. I'm thinking since the carbon levers are very light, they transfer and maybe amplify resistance caused by the cables, where the old aluminum Tektro levers dampened it. I'm withholding final judgement until I replace the cables.

@franswa, thought you had non SRAM on the Rush? Or are you talking about a different bike? I recall when guys were trying to get you to go with SRAM but lack of return spring was a no-go for you.

@RoderWrench, did the Tektro levers have a return spring? The SRAM S500 levers on my bike do not and IIRC the S900 are the same way. Maybe lack of return spring is making you feel friction more - whether from the caliper or the cables I don't know.

A lot of crud and dust gets into my calipers. Maybe take them off, clean/lube while you have the cables off.

Just bought two pair of 25's @ $16.50 each @ Merlin.

I went with the Srams anyway cause of better ergonomics and also switched bars and stem at the same time.

I just bought my bike.... a sibling.

Ordered a 2016 white parallax frameset from Scrodman. I also made sure to pick up a gummi shark in case of emergency.
