Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Beautiful! Great job (don't want to leave you out!). It looks totally modern. I wouldn't even have known that was a vintage frame. Love the color, too.

Confession: I've had a "fetish" for the color red lately since it reminds me of the lipstick my ex-girlfriend would apply before a ride! Sigh...

Late 90's Pinarello cross steel frame. Built it into a 2nd roadie. Veloce Ultra torque compact, Veloce components, Campy Proton wheels. Frame was bought off ebay. Had just been custom painted a metallic orange which is prettier than the pictures can show. The carbon fork was already on it when I bought it. Bought it to use commuting but now I'm not sure.

Ask and ye shall recieve. This was my first "from scratch" build, so I made a couple mistakes. The list is missing my chain. It's a XT 9 speed chain. I also picked up an 80mm stem, and that's not on the list yet. I'll have time to finish the build in two weeks.

The best thing to do is ride it and see how it feels, then bring your feedback back to the shop and let them help you dial in the fit.

Not sure if I posted my bike here before, but it's my trusty racer/beater/training bike: 2000 Trek 1000 with several upgrades.

Heavy as it is, I love my bike.

tires are brand new. I just upgraded most of the bike. originally had full 600ex group, and Wolber Gentleman GTA rims with specialized Turbo S tires and pearl 9 black quill stem. Steel fork, 600ex clip pedals, and non-biopace chainrings. also was a 6sp freewheel setup, 11-21t

I purchased the bike new from Bike Nashbar in '86 on sale for $549 if I recall. Sold normally for $799 I think.

and thank you for the compliments.

I bought that bike new in '86, sorry. I've had trouble even finding references to the Race SIS frameset on Google these days. That was Nashbar's top of the line road bike at the time. The design and features are/were very similar to those of the Pinarellos, Panasonics, and so forth of the era, though Nashbar used Tange2 tubing instead of the step up to Tange Prestige. Anyway, it was made in Japan, for whatever that's worth.

I added a couple of new photos above.

Just picked this up yesterday from a really cool ex-crit racer... bike was hanging up in his garage for over a decade until then.

Yeah, yeah... Granny gear picture. I was going up a hill.

Here's my bike:

Seriously. I actually bought one of these, used, for $5.00 about this time last year. Road it pretty much all summer long. Bought a Raleigh Technium something-or-other near the end of the season. When I get it tuned-up and get some real pedals on it, instead of those stupid things you have to wear special shoes for, I'm going to ride the Technium. I'll post a pic of the Technium next.
