So, what should we do .... hmmmmmmm........ 16 year old daughter borrows the car to go to a friend's house. Then calls and asks if she can sleep over ... I reluctantly say "ok". My wife and I each wonder if she's up to something .. (she's been good so far) .... We call the house she's staying at .. no answer ... I drive over and don't see our car .... drive to the boy friend's house ... no car there either ... hmmmm .... hidden in his garage ?? She finally answers the phone and I tell het to come home now..... but it's taking her a while ... should be home by now.
I thought I had my hands full with an unexpectedly alert infant at 3 AM.

Hey Hammy...Missed your post on the last day at the studio. Good luck on the move and enjoy the mountains!
Homebrew, that's a tough one. Initial reaction for most is to be a hard ass, but at times that just back fires and builds more of a wedge into the issue. I have always found talking it out with my kids has always helped. Always be honest and open with them and hopefully they do the same with you...
On a somewhat related note, my oldest son wants back into cycling...So I'm in the process of stocking up parts to throw on my wife's old Tarmac frame that we never got around to selling. Hopefully he sticks with it and we'll get qet a chance to some riding together again!

HB, it's the lying that needs to be addressed. Everything else is secondary. Trust is everything. I am dealing with the same thing and more. Good luck.

Haha, thanks. I was just figuring that everyone says rollers take time to learn and they will amplify any inputs. Well that is certainly true, even more so when riding them in the wrong orientation. Flipping the frame around and now I am not pining for a trainer so much!

I'm tempted to call the boyfriend's parents to see if there was suspicious activity from their perspective ..... I can't think what else she would be doing worth lying about ... but if he was not involved, then I might make things worse.
Yes, I don't want to build walls. I told her last night that people are better off when they admit their mistakes up front, and don't add to the deception. Makes it easier to move on. Just a short calm discussion .... not yelling or blowups.

Having a parent to parent chat is never really a bad thing. You may find out that they are as concerned as you are.

One thing I think we can count on is teenager issues. My 15-yo niece ended up calling dad from jail. They had gone to a concert, and some boys in the group said, "Hey, do you want to see the city from the roof of the school?" So they got a trespassing ding. This girl is a really good kid -- perfect grades, well behaved, usually honest -- this stuff will happen with most teens, I think.

A week on the beach, drinking and eating well, means crappy power numbers on the trainer when I get back. Oh well, I'll still take that trade any time.

thanks dude...things are coming together quite nicely. These days its not as easy to move across the country without a job in place. I was able to secure employment before the move. That was my only anxiety about leaving. (thats the only reason Ive stayed in FL so long- a great job). So Im feeling rather fortunate.

today (yesterday) I dropped $250 on a totally new bedset: matching comforter, pillow cases and bed skirt, pillows, Egyptian cotton sheets. In addition to being a huge comfort upgrade, it just looks nice and makes my bedroom much more pleasant to be in.
TMI: My old set is about 5 years old (into college), mismatching, incorrectly sized and stained from all dem drugs, sex and rock n roll (ewwww)

I read a random passage when bored in church on xmas and it struck me. I like anything that's righteous, virtuous and prophetic. Let's get pious *****es.

Hammy: Congrats, I'm happy for you.
Homebrew: Don't sweat it man, shes clearly working on an early birthday gift for you and she needs to keep it a secret.
In other news: I ran my first marathon yesterday in Houston. Knocked it out at a 10:09 pace for 4:26:07, I'm pretty damned proud of that. NOW, I finally get to resume my bike training. I'd heard folks say previously that running kills your ability on the bike and Id always dismissed it, but I understand now. It's all about time. If I wanted to go hard one day on the bike, I couldn't because I had to go out the following day and run umpteen miles. I'm excited for the race season, even if my base is going to be a little weak this year.
