Beautiful day, temps in the mid '60's, light breeze, and gravel. Rolled up just over 40miles for the day.
Southeast Nebraska isn't completely flat.
Even tried out this sparsely maintained little gem.
A few hundred miles and the GravelKings are doing just fine.

Once I got to Stillwater, the sun hid behind the clouds and everything went all dreary for a bit. But the scenery just begged for a black-and-white shot, so here I am in Venice:
... er, with the new Stillwater Bridge on the horizon. What just happened? Must be some kinda new enemy PsyOps
Never mind, on to the objective! Here we are, close enough for a positive ID:
It's a bridge, south of Stillwater, and it looks pretty new. I'm goin' in...

The '17 Tour de Bronx was yesterday and the weather was just incredible with sunny skies, a nice breeze and a high in the low 70s. Over 7,000 riders attended so it is NOT a race but instead a great cycling event. We arrived late so we were stuck in the log jam of riders and had to navigate through the mass for the first 10 miles until we reached the first rest stop. After that the roads open up for those who wish to ride faster. 50 miles of fun and I did spy a fair amount of lovely C&V there. A rider on a nice Woodrup commented on my Raleigh as I rode past him and we then chatted for a few minutes about C&V. The only mechanical issue was when one of the nuts on my front fender loosened causing a rattling sound. Easy fix.

Oh yeah DQ! I was just waiting to see your take on all the Stillwater scenery.
As for my riding lately, just daylight shortened club rides. Had a great pub crawl ride last Friday afternoon though. Found a couple new favorite local brews.

Try the Camelback bottles, those look like mine and they won't be dripping on you even if they are set in the open position. You have to draw on them before fluid is flowing. I use both the Big Chill and their Podium models.

In and Around Stillwater, MN - Fall Colors Ride
As I may have said before, it looks like as soon as our colors reached their peak here, the wind went to work scattering them all over the ground. Still, there were sections of the trail that were slightly sheltered from the wind, and in those places the colors were brilliant:
On Brown's Creek Trail I found an art installation that I've never seen before - all these wheels were slowly spinning, and the effect was almost mesmerizing. I tried to fit my bike into the visual sequence...
Arriving in Stillwater under cloudy skies, the first thing I noticed was how high the water level was:
Normally these chains form a barrier along a sidewalk next to the river:
So of course I had to take this shot:

Last Saturday, I rode in the Foxy's Fall Century out of Davis, California. My Schwinn Tempo was my steed for the 100 km ride. Here's an image from a Putah Creek Road section in Solano County.

Meanwhile, yesterday way out here in the PNW, the last perfect day of autumn? Maybe.
Decided to to hie me out to the Spruce Railroad Trail, Lake Crescent, WA. I've shot probably 8 or 10 bikes along this path, which has been getting some serious infrastructure upgrades in the last two years. Here's the reopened tunnel (one of the eventual three), originally built over 100 years ago for logging trains hauling local old-growth Sitka Spruce - hence the name - for the construction of warplanes in WWI. The war ended before the rails were actually laid, but they finished the project anyway for general logging purposes and used the railway for 30 years or so.
The first mile and half from the trailhead is the extra-wide, smoothed and leveled trail you see above. After that, it's single track again for about 3 or 4 miles - at least for another year or two.
Here are two of my favorite views along that unimproved section, with Mt Storm King in the background of each:

Thanks, cooperryder. Stillwater is one of our most photogenic towns. If I could get rid of the crowds for a day, I could really show you something. I've got to get up to Duluth next season - that's the best scenery I can think of in Minnesota.
Lascauxcaveman, you hit the nail on the head! It's all about emphasis on a location's strengths. We have plenty of beauty and grandeur here, but sometimes you have to kind of dig to find it. The PNW, however... man, you cannot escape mind-blowing scenery out there! That's another place I want to visit next year, if I can ever get enough time away from work. Thanks for the motivation!

Took a nice fall mountain ride from Fairlplay CO to Mosquito Gulch by the bike path then took the back way back to Fairplay over road 698 12,000 or so about 20 miles had walk a mile or so because of snow but it was nice.

No pics from todays adventure but I did something rather 'nutty'. Rode the 1966 Schwine fixed gear on a variety of terrain and challenges. The best though was gravel grinding on falling leaves covered trails... hiding those tennis ball sized nuts. Like I mentioned -nutty. Then decided to get into the medium level atb single track trails, tree roots, wash-outs, obstacles that no can do bunny hop on a fixie...lol. Managed to get through it all, hair raising but what the heck?! 700 x 28c Panaracer T-serve are good enough too.

As usual, spectacular pics. Makes me wish I was there riding with you all.
It's been some months since we took the tandem out, thanks to a minor injury my sweetie had to deal with. So today we took the tandem out for 19 miles just to see the leaves. It was a beeyouutiful day.
