Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Sante' crank's pedal socket aren't drilled completely thru, so you can't use a pedal that requires an allen wrench from the back side. Let me know your thoughts.

I'm still get used to the size. I think that TT might be about belly button height on me.

Needs skinwall tires, clipples pedals and a more period correct looking seatpost.

Velo Orange makes one that would look much better. https://velo-orange.com/collections/...-seatpost-27-2

I never was a fan of gum wall tires, plus imho, red bikes look great with red tires. Thompson seatpost are my preference, but like I said I have the original, but to get the seat to my height it was well past the minimum insertion point. But I am looking for a set of clipless pedals that work, deciding if I want white ones or silver.

The poor owner can't catch a break. Now people are going to gripe about his bike all over again.

This thread isn't about your opinion, on your bike. Colored tires look bad on all bikes. I'm not a fan of skinwall tires on modern bikes, but they look "right" on classics.

I'd probably go with Silver SPD-SL r540 pedals like these. https://www.ebay.com/p/1300011185

No love previously with the non-aero levers and downtube shifters.

Lets try this again with Campagnolo 8 speed and modern wheels:

Here you go. 1977 Schwinn Super Le Tour 12.2. I stripped the cloudy and chipping clear coat. Unfortunately the decals were a casualty.

I think I like the before better. Neither are hot, but the before photo looks period correct.

I'm not much of a C&V guy, so if someone would have told me that they were going to show me a Time and a Nishiki and that I'd like the Nishiki more, I would have said they were nuts.... but here we are.

Nishiki = Hot.

Time = Very nice bike, for sure, but the frame is looking a bit dated to me, and not in the charming way.

I actually think bikes look better without decals. It makes them a lot cleaner, more pure. If they have to have them, make the decals small. Unfortunately, that does not sell widgets.
As for your bike, chrome/shiny is always hot. The brown saddle is iffy now with the move to black.

I like the after if you went with a modern saddle and handlebars. I believe the frame can be vintage, but the rest needs to be updated. Or, keep it all period correct, as @noodle soup says.

The Time, unfortunately looks like ever other red/black/white bike out there. There is a sea of them in every brand made. Those, and black on black bikes. They all look the same. Like Army ants marching on towards world domination.

Overall, I really like the lines of the bike. Not a fan of the rims, though. Well, I'm a fan of the rims, I've built wheels with them myself, but I'm not a fan of them on this bike. Too jarring of a difference in aesthetic unless you're going full-on retro frame with modern everything else. I'd also go with either brown/brown or black/black on the saddle and bars.

I say that, yet I just got through filling in the brand/model etching on an aluminum crank with a black sharpie so I could see it better. Talking out of both sides of my mouth.
