I love riding the BRP.

I had the opportunity to visit Asheville and I would stay near the Town of Biltmore Village. Loved to ride up to Mt. Pisgah and back. Some of the best !

30 fast miles with the local bike club on a flat course. First time with my old riding club in a long time. It was a very nice ride and evening, in good company.

67 miles today. Wanted to increase riding without stopping. 3 hours 48 miles, eat, rest then home. Tried to keep the pace around 15 mph to practice for my first century but no luck, went out at 16.5 and finished at 16.5 mph. Felt good, not tired at all. I think i can do it in September. This is my first strong day recovering for being sick in the middle of August.

THe regular TUesday hill-climbing club ride. It felt lousy! I was off the bike 4 of the last 5 days, and this really affected my wind. This has happened to me in the past - a week or even less of inactivity and I lose noticeable CV capacity. I was wheezing on hills that were no big deal last week. WTF?

Due to the chaos of the past couple of weeks I've ridden very little. So I went on my Slow Climb to Nowhere (tm) which I extended out to Simpsonville.

I had forgotten the simple pleasure of sitting in the shade of the BP station, drinking a Cocola and listening to Victor Wooten on my IPod.

I rode 40 miles. However, I was done at 30 and felt poorly for about three hours afterward. 91 degree temp didn't help.

Still, I counted it as a good ride. Now I'm debating whether to try the Nifty Fifty this weekend.

Between the MD appts, etc., I got in a couple of very short rides = about 20 miles total. I have lost a bit mmore weight, and it is great seeing that weight loss transfer into noticeably easier riding!!

1st day of the new month and it started like last month ended, a fricken flat tire! In fact two of them. The first must have been a poor repair on the last one because it was flat when I went out to start today's ride. Anywy 26 miles in near 90 degree weather.
I patched three tires this evening and ordered two Continental Gatorskins from PBK for peace of mind.

Due to someone else joining us for the ride on their first time up Glendora Mountain Road, we started a lot later than was good. But we put in 22 plus miles(11 mile climb with 2500 feet of gain, at least for me) from the house. It was way too freaking hot to be up there and have any chance of enjoying it. Was mostly a suffer fest for me, though everyone else seemed to do ok. Seems the heat has been getting to me a lot more of late. Met FryDaddy at the bottom and he rode up halfway with Mr Beanz and Will. I suffered way too much from the heat.
Oh well, cooler weather is around the corner.

Forgot I am the only one in those pics old enough to be in this forum. Opppsss

One hour and 20 minutes on the cross bike this evening in a local park riding trails, paths and grass fields. Totaled just over 16 miles with a just over 12 mph ave. Carrying the bike up 24 steps every 10 minute lap really zaps the average speed.

Tonight's ride was Cross-tactular

Did another early pre-dawn 40-miler on the W&OD trail. Unremarkable except that it reminded me that it won't be long till fall, then wintertime...

Did a short ride to raid a neighbors apple tree and then smoked a dude in full kit on a cherry road bike, what a loser.

After many years of not riding, I started riding again this Spring. Doing pretty well . . .getting faster and stronger. Yesterday I was on one of my short loops (approx 16 miles) when I met a gentleman clearly older than me. I'm 60. I guessed he was 70 or so . . . wrong! He turns out to be 81 years old and still rides 6,000 miles per year. I was suitably humbled and impressed.

Today is the last day of summer -- at least for a few days. A cold front is coming through tonight. Consequently I had a fairly strong headwind for the last half of the ride. Did 35 miles. Lots of sun. The schools had a holiday and traffic was light during the whole ride. I guess everyone got out of town early.
Maybe they won't come back

Yes. Finally, after a 3 1/2 week layoff I took a short (2.5 mile) spin today to test my leg. I could feel a little pulling around the area of the broken fibula, but no pain. I am following the doctor's advice. He said whenever I could ride without pain, it would be OK, even good for it. He guessed about 3 to 5 weeks, so I'm right on time. I was on crutches up until Wednesday. This doesn't mean there will be no complications with the leg, but at least the recovery is going according to plan in this respect.

I kept it in low spinning gears so there was no hard pressure on the leg. One car passed me while I was riding. I was very aware of it, but managed not to tense up much. The driver was considerate and moved into the opposite lane to give me plenty of clearance.

The ride was not without drama, however. About 30 feet from my doorstep, a rock or stick rolled up between my front tire and fender, stopping the wheel and sending me over the handlebars and onto the ground. I landed on my good leg, scraping the knee and lower leg a little bit and bruising my right hand slightly. I had to drag the bike up to the porch and remove the front fender before I could resume riding. Good thing I don't believe in omens

Despite all that, it was great to get back on the road. Now I can gradually start reclaiming the fitness I had before the crash.

Rode Thursday with visiting BF member rltrock on a 34 mile ride with 2600' of elevation gain. Today I joined him for 48 miles and 3500' of climbing. Perfect weather, low 70s, dry and breezy.

Hey Dawg,
I am glad to hear your back and starting to ride and heal.

But the above is just crazy! You're lucky it was 30 feet from your doorstep. Wow that is nuts.
