I usually ride the 35 mile route at the local YMCA charity ride but watching the weather today I chose to just ride the 12 mile course. About the time I got back to town the wind hit and they were fighting to keep the blow up finish line arch up but I managed to get a pic. 1984 Schwinn World Sport, my daily commuter.

I took the, um, gee, which bike did I ride today? Ah, the Grandis. 46 miles. Intended to ride more but had some flat trouble.

No matter how much you ride there is always something new to experience. Zipping along through the fields after flying down the hill past Gropius House I passed a car going the other way with the horn beeping intermittently. I thought, was this someone trying to get my attention? I waved as the car went by thinking it might be someone who recognized me. The honking stopped, but then 50 yards later it started again, and I noticed the driver, an elderly woman, had pulled over. So I turned around to see if she was looking for help. She apologized and said her necklace had gotten stuck in the horn. While I stood there she pulled on it a few more times, each time honking the horn! After a few more tried she got it out, thanked me for coming back.

Speaking of flats, I had two flats on the rear tire seemingly from the same cause and without me going anywhere between them. I hadn't gone but a few miles when it picked up a sliver of glass. I patched it but the tire wouldn't hold air. Found another tiny abrasion about 2cm away on the side of the tire. Best I can figure is I scraped the tube on the glass as I pulled it out. Or maybe not. About 35 miles later the tire went soft again. A time hole near the previous two. Hmm, no holes. It looked like a faulty tube. Anyway, a tube swap fixed it, got me home.

We had fun picking almost 4 lbs of raspberries earlier today. Pie time!

30 miles, 14.9 mph avg on the old Super Course. We rode the Somis Foothills, north of Camarillo, CA. One of our club members used to have an avocado ranch up on Bradley. He installed a water fountain for riders to reload their bottles. He retired and moved into town, but the water stop is still available, thanks to the new owners. They have a couple of friendly farm dogs who always greet us, looking for hand outs. Low 80s, kinda windy but a great day to ride. Supposed to head back up to the 100s this week.

Touring with my girl, and we made one of our lesser decisions. I'm usually quite pleased with how google handles my "get me there" requests, but cycling seems to be under-developed territory.

At first the road looked fine, but soon it got worse, but as we were going downhill we did not want to turn back. Like we should have, because after a while we found ourselves here:



Nowhere to go but further down, and up the clay hill on the other side. I finallly managed to get my bike up there, and went back for my girl's bike and to take this picture. At least I got that out of the situation:

I did the Honolulu Century Ride (HCR17) over the weekend. It was more then twice the distance I had ever done on a bike, ended somewhere around 110 miles. The group I rode with took their time on the climbs, so I spent time waiting at the top in the shade. And the 12 speed '88 Bianchi I picked up about a month ago performed flawlessly. Yes, I could have used some lower gearing, but it just gave me a reason to get to the top quicker

I took a 34 mile ride on the PX10 yesterday. The weather is absolutely splendid. It is just a fast bike and I easily keep up with most of the riders on carbon. @billytwosheds Great photos and nice work! That must be a very scenic ride!

Yesterday was my 62nd birthday. I took the day off and met up with my longtime friend and riding buddy Mike for a "ride my age" day.

A round trip from my house to the High Sierra Ranger Station in Prather is a near-perfect metric century. At the half way point I got my Lifetime Senior National Park Pass on the first day I was eligible. The price went up last month from the absurd low price of $10 to $80, but it still feels like a bargain. 3 trips to Yosemite will pay for it.




We stopped at the mini-mart across the street for snacks. My red Rainbow 'Traut is alongside Mike's Team Champ.





62 years, 62 miles (63 actually) on vintage steel and a lifetime park pass was a pretty good way to start another year. In the evening, I got a new wind vest from my wife to replace the one I lost on Cypress Mountain Road at Eroica California, and a gift card for my favorite LBS from my son.

This is actually from Saturday, but I did a metric century on my 1983 Raleigh Super Course. Part 1 was a breakfast ride with my bike club. Here's a pic of some of us suffering up Oakmonster hill.

The new trail is not yet finished and needs some clean up.

Today was probably our last hot day for 2017 (82 degrees where I was at), so I took advantage of the weather and put in my longest ride of the season at 62 miles. Over-hydrated at one point which made for a difficult 10 or so miles on the return leg, but in the end I finished faster than I started. I think I'm pretty much well on my way back to fitness - just in time to get fat for winter
