I don't know, I've never gone into a bike shop to look for used bikes. There are plenty of ways to accomplish that.

You probably know what you are doing. For the new rider or parent looking for a bike for their kid buying from a reputable shop helps them out.

Think about how many people here, when a noob posts "Which bike is the best for my $500 budget?" say, "Buy used," without asking whether the poster knows a brake- from a shift lever.

Now we can say, "Check out the certified used bikes at Trek .... you can get more for less there, and won't want to be upgrading seven months from now."
