Glad you're moving forward. We need an Ironman ride in J'Ville, do we not?

We do! Better... Situate it around Raleigh and we could draw perhaps more Ironman members.

Wow another application for Kapton tape.. that i never thought about, plus if your bike ever catches on fire.. the tape will be fine.. unless it gets over 400 degress F.

I used to work in Electronics Manufacturing and used that stuff all of the time.

I was surprised by the heft of the Nitto stem the I saw it had a steel jam bolt. Dug up an aluminum one at the LBS to use. Will have to drill and tap to the slightly larger bolt. Something to do during the snowstorm tomorrow.

I don't have a gram counter but holding the two in opposite hands ready gets the feeling of weight difference.

I no weight wee i.e. At all! Just geeking on things and finding ways to entertain myself.

I measured a 21g difference between the stock steel (cast iron?) wedge on an 80's SR stem, and the aluminum one on a newer Nitto stem.

Next up is the screw in brake cable end on the brake lever. The cables are held tight by a indent which makes cable housing replacement impossible. Have to get out the drill and open the hole back up after finally yanking the old housing out.

Done.

Next is to solve the problem of the missing rear brake cable adjuster. Snuck into the shed and robbed the white winter Trek of its complete 600 brake set. That way I get the end caps for the housing as well.

Things are still moving.

The BB on there was Tange and in great shape. The spindle was the wrong size, 119 not the correct 116. In my bins was an equally great Tange BB correct size so old one Off and new one on. Much better chainring distance to the stay.

A better 600 crankset has been mounted while I clean the paint from the original. Pedals will be Shimano SPD. I have several sets of 600 pedals but can't use them.

Levers and housing set and taped to the bars. Cabling and wrap tomorrow.

Correct width rim tape laid down and wheels shod. Specialized trisport 700X23.

Calipers mounted and even got 2 of the little black rubber pieces for the bolt hole on the 600 brakes. Those came gratis from my friendly LBS.

Must go find a chain for this bike. Then the winter test ride can begin.

All cabled, greased, wrapped and adjusted. Used a few items like cable, handle bar tape for this temp build.

I do not have the star wrench set for HS adjusting but my LBS does so Monday I roll in and properly adjust it. As for now, a short ride around the block confirms it fits me nicely and really handles awesome!

Knee willing, longer ride tomorrow.

That is actually a 1989 Master "hard rock" white with grey marble (much like your white with blue marble Ironman). The smoke on the water is white with blue and smoke.
I had a "smoke on the water " that is now owned by BF member jamesdak.

Rode the 86 into the LBS and used the star wrenches to tighten the HS proper. Went on down the road and promptly went under water from the rainstorm.

I will try again tomorrow.

Good idea... Anyone know where I can get a new chain guard for my '85? Mine got snagged on something. I have not been able to find these aluminum(?) guards; SS would be fine too. Thank you.
