Looks great so far!
I kinda agree on the bars, they look massive on this small frame. But that doesn't mean that upright bars can't look elegant on this bike. You just need something smaller, like the Nitto Dove, or maybe the VO porteur or Postino bars.
Fenders need some tweaking as well, decrease the radius, and also rotate the rear one a couple of inches forward, so you have a couple of inches of fender passing through the chain stays. That's how those extra long fenders were meant to be installed.
What's holding the rear rack to the seat stays?

the fenders are just sitting there to see what they would look like, not installed at all. that's why they look off.
nothing's holding the rear rack to the seat stays in the photo; it's also just on there to see what it looks like. when it's fully installed, i'll use eye-bolts and p-clamps. not the most elegant solution but the frame lacks the appropriate braze-ons.

gorgeous, no flaws at all in the chrome. i was surprised too, as there were large rust stains from the clamp-on cable guides that i assumed would have corroded the chrome underneath - but nope, they were nice and shiny smooth underneath.

All done!
took it for an inaugural ride today and everything worked perfectly. shifting is smooth and reliable. the riding position will take some getting used to, but i should be able to wear a blazer or suit finally instead of having to keep one at my office.

As a former owner of an 84 ProTour, just let me say - WOW - what a transformation. Loaded touring across town.

This kind-of makes me wish that my '77 was one of the later fully-chromed ones...
