Goal for August - 700 miles
Note: these are August dates and should have started with 8 instead of 7. I’m still learning my months, peeps, so bear with me.

7/02 - 62
7/03 - 43
7/04 - 51
7/05 - 51
7/06 - 38
7/07 - 47
8/08 - 53
8/09 - 43
8/12 - 58
MTD - 464
Back in the FL heat. The miles come easier if you get out early.

08/13 - 5 (split morning and afternoon)
08/14 - 6 (biking with a 20lb backpack is draining - but the groceries were needed!)
08/18 - 6 (Took three days off for back pain and weather. Today's ride felt good. Shaved 5 minutes off my route - getting better at attacking hills)
08/19 - 10 (first 10 mile ride, first 1+ hour ride)
08/20 - 4 (quick zip around town)
08/23 - 12
08/24 - 9 (nice and easy ride - just trying to get decent miles to hit my goal)
08/25 - 8 (finally feeling confident I'll hit my goal)
08/26 - 7

Just got my bike this weekend so I'm coming in late but I'm setting a 100 mile goal for the remainder of the month. I'm averaging about 5 miles a day this week so it seems reasonable even accounting for a few days off.
I'm looking forward to longer rides as I get more comfortable with hills and shifting gears. My first ride I just kind of winged it and hoped for the best. Only took about 15 minutes to have my chain fall off. But a few youtube videos and a couple more rides later, and this morning's ride was so much easier getting into a proper gear for the hills. I think I should be able to start extending the morning rides to ~10 miles pretty quickly.

Mini Goals
I started out this morning knowing what I needed to break 100 for the month before the 15th .
The weatherman is predicting rain the next two days , so I if I was going to meet my mini goal , today was the day .
I started an hour earlier than I usually do.
And I rode my Schwinn Crisscross that I made some changes to yesterday, primarily gearing and smaller tires .
I think it made the difference.

Thanks. I've been adding to them for a long time.
The red Waterford died recently (cracked frame)
But I just got a used replacement frame yesterday
This a a carbon and Titanium Serotta. I am building it up with the gear from one of my other bikes but I haven't decided which yet. It needs a new fork, there was a hairline crack on the fork tip. I think it looks nice so far.

Wasn't feeling up to another hill-climb today, so I took PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) and added a few miles as penance. Yesterday I broke a spoke on the Tarmac's rear wheel (which explains why I couldn't get over 25 mph on the way down; I was dragging a brake pad and didn't know it), so that bike will be off the road for a while, bike shops around here are either closed or not taking in new work because they're swamped. Considered fixing it myself, I found a guy on ebay who will sell me the right spoke for $10, but wants $65 to ship it from Italy, and a guy on ebay who has a whole Ultegra wheel for $69 with free shipping, trouble is, he said it's a front wheel, which would do me no good, but the pictures show a rear wheel, which would be fine. I asked for clarification. Oh, while typing this, he responded and said it's a rear wheel, so if I can't find a shop to do it today, I may invest in a spare wheel.

08/11 - 37.8
08/13 - 68.5 Hard day. Had difficulty drinking and short on energy although I did almost meet my hydration quota by the end. Thought I would feel better with it being the second week at around seventy miles but not at all. I guess I will exercise patience and see next week or just wait for cooler weather.
MTD - 310.7 miles
GOAL: 500 miles
