This bike was for sale locally a few months ago for $50. I was tempted to buy it because I really liked the look of it even though I wouldn't be able to ride it because it was way too small. It was a J.C. Higgins.

WOW.
I'm thinking seriously about this. I've been really curious about seeing what a modern (factory equipped with brifters, straight fork, etc,) would be like. And you guys know about my touring bike addiction. 😳

Vintage Bianchi road bike - $400 (Jamestown)

Posted 2020-01-26 16:26 (15 Days Ago - Must have missed it first time around?)

"For sale: 1986 Bianchi Campion De Italia. Frame size is 53cm and is made of Columbus Cromor tubing. Drivetrain is Suntour Quattro. Not many of these around. Bianchi's are known for being equipped with Italian components. The company wanted to keep the price point down and sought out Suntour from Japan to make this group of components. This was the only year that Bianchi offered this setup. 7 speed drivetrain with down tube indexed shifting. Front shifter is friction. Wheels are an upgrade. Original bike had Quattro hubs laced to Ambrosio Elite 19 36 hole rims. Current wheels are Campagnolo 28 hole small flange Record hubs laced to Arraya rims. Price of bike includes original wheelset. Tires are Michelin Dynamic 25c. Original Bianchi cable housing with new inner cables both shifters and brakes. Modolo brakes. The brake lever hoods were dry rotted so I removed them. Brakes work fine just no rubber hoods, another not so common part. Bar tape is new Cinelli. Pedals shown do not come with bike but I have the original ones along with cages and straps. The bike is completely road worthy, tuned professionally. There are a few spots of surface rust on the tubing but overall is in very good condition. Original paint and graphics. All in all a very nice bicycle. Would be great for shows, vintage steel rides, etc. or could be built up as a fixie/ single speed for scootin' around the neighborhood.
Cash only. Local pick up only. Email or text @ 3three6 two150seven 0six if interested. Willing to meet for show and tell. Thanks for looking!

bicycle frame material: steel

bicycle type: road
brake type: caliper
condition: good
electric assist: none
frame size: 53cm
handlebar type: drop
suspension: none (rigid)
wheel size: 700C"

1985 Trek Sport 600 Road Bike - 24” Frame - $250 (Raleigh)

Posted 2020-02-06 19:15 (4 Days Ago - Overlooked this one too I suppose? Boy, do I suck at looking? Good at overlooking, though, so there is that? Overlooking being an overlooked virtue: a basis for basic tolerance of other annoying human creatures.)

"This Trek 600 was the pinnacle of their Sport line and retailed for $700 back in 1985. It is in excellent condition for being 35 years old. A few scrapes but paint is generally in great shape and everything is original. Please see photos for component details. Tires in good shape and hold air. Frame is the second largest they offered at 24”. The Reynolds 531 frame is famous and incredibly lightweight for its time. The frame alone routinely sells for $200 on eBay. As with any used bike, a tune-up and custom fitting is recommended. Asking $250 OBO

bicycle type: road

condition: excellent
frame size: 24.5”
make / manufacturer: Trek
model name / number: 600
serial number: 195105
wheel size: 25 in"

I'd like to meet that grandmother, too!

It looks like my size. I couldn't believe the 18-inch frame size was correct, but then I saw 26-inch wheels. That totally throws me off.

They are 622's, and not 26" wheels.

^^^^^ What's the big surprise about "75-year-old grandmother"? She would have been about half that age, less than 40, when she bought the bike new. My sister became a grandmother several years ago, turns 66 this year, and she rides more than me, on her custom Nobilette she had built about that ^^^^^ time.

BTW, did y'all notice the logo pantograph on the fork crown. Depicts the non-drive side; gasp, what would @T-Mar say?

Looks to have the top-tube under-paint rust bubbling going on, I always seem to find it on the 84-86ish Treks more than any other bike. I dunno why, but it seems like the blue ones always have it worse than any others.

Trainer duty, maybe?

Also, rear mech is a downgrade, not disclosed (except in the pic).

Possible. Every time I've seen it, it's on a mid-ish-range (400/500), 1984-1986, usually blue ones, but red isn't immune. Concentration of it is always on the side of the top tubes, between the headset and the middle cable guide. Most common spot on all bikes is under or around the "XXX Series" decal.

Because of where I've typically seen it, could be from trainer duty, but I would expect the forward-most cable guide to be eaten up, and to find a line of rust where sweat sat between the cable housing and top tube.

Don't get me wrong, there are definitely other bikes I've seen similar on. But consistently on the 84-86 Treks. I have a red 410 listed right now with it on the NDS side of the top tube, actually.

I'd go look at it in person. She might have relocated from Pasadena California. Check to see if there is an old Dodge in the garage.
