^^ I disagree that your pictures aren't as good as mine or JJScaliger's. I was wondering how well your Rawland had done for you on the ride. Based on your performance on the ride, it appears to have worked out very well for you. 650B rocks!

I agree 650B rocks, but I think a lot of it is the frame. My Shogun 650B conversion was built up very similarly (Hetres, dynamo lighting, front rack/bag, bar-end shifters, low gearing, similar drivetrain, same saddle, etc) but was more sluggish.

I've never seen the Rivendell Catalog so I can't answer your question. (though I do own one of their caps!)
One of Grant Petersen's projects before Rivendell was a wonderful little book called Roads to Ride which included maps and elevation profiles of great riding roads in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Marin County. (Heyday Books, 1984) The Rivendell folks are known to come over to this side of the bay so your idea is not entirely far fetched.

This Saturday I rode the San Francisco Randonneurs "Old Caz 300" adventure ride, a 300K ride mostly on rarely traveled country roads and some off-road, including a creek crossing, starting and ending at Golden Gate Bridge.

Just finished a 23.5 mile late lunch ride on my Cino bike and found this on the front tire when I got home. These Pasela Tourguards have less than 100 miles on them and the sidewall failed already with the tube sticking out. Lucky I didn't have a blow out. Got a new tire ordered up from the lbs that should be here in time before I leave next week.

Scozim, that looks like something tore the sidewall. I blew out the sidewall of a new Pasela TG once when I fell into a pothole and must have scraped the side of the tire against the edge. A belt doesn't help the sidewall much.
We got in 18.5 miles on the tandem today. I tried a different way to get out of our neighborhood. Unfortunately the timing was too far from breakfast and too close to lunch, so I bonked quickly on a few steep hills. Ugh.

35 mile ride on the Grand jubile to an old cast-iron lighthouse I didn't know existed beneath the George Washington bridge. Love these surprises you find in New York!

Discovering stuff like this is what bicycling is all about, at least to me. Because you're moving at a slower pace, you can actually see stuff. Riding the bicycles has opened up my eyes to all kinds of stuff, that went unnoticed when driving the car. By looking at the picture, I guess you can't go inside the lighthouse.

Today, I rolled out of bed at 5 AM to get my duff in gear to go for a ride up to Middletown on some roads I hadn't travelled before. The specific goal of the ride was to ride some gravel roads in my area at a leisurely pace as preparation for a group ride I might do in late October. In any case, the ride was definitely leisurely and while I was actually on the gravel roads, I only encountered one vehicle. Of course, some of that was because of the time I started the ride (I rolled out of my house at 6:32 AM), but most of it was just because I was off the beaten path. I find it very relaxing not to have to deal with motor vehicles when I'm riding, so I'm probably going to incorporate some of these roads into my routes in the future. Average speed was a very laid back 12.7 MPH over 40.3 miles with 2,382 feet of climbing.

Oh, nice pics, pg. But then, with your username of photogravity we'd expect nothing less! Nice ride too.
We got out on some new roads, thanks to a route posting by BF member antimonysarah. 40 miles Bedford out to Honey Pot Orchards in Stow, back to Concord, north into Carlisle, back to Bedford. It was HUMID, so humid I thought we were running the swimming and biking parts of a tri simultaneously. But it rained only lightly once or twice. Sharon bought some fruit, of course. Met an old aquaintance who was playing with his kids at a park in Sudbury. That was a nice treat.
