1987 (?) Traveler. $50 CL find, not bad IMO, should clean up nicely. Those wheel covers are the first to go...

Had a nice day yesterday at a local swap meet. I met forum member seabass first, picked up a ton of small items and grabbed this Specialized Allez. It needed new tires, tubes, bar tape and the Fizik saddle, that I got at a crazy low price. Carbons not really my thing so this is going to craigslist.I lost 2 of my allen wrenches from my Spin Doctor set, after adjusting my last bike next to my Jeep I layed the 5 and 6mm on top of my Jeep and forgot about them. I was able to pick up a new complete set for $15

No pictures yet, but I've got two in the works. First one is a Centurian mixte I picked up from someone's trash a few weeks back. I've had it powder coated and it's partially built back up. In the process of trying to locate better wheels for it, I found a Miyata 112 (I think) on the big auction site and ended up winning it for the grand sum of $7.16. I'm picking it up Saturday, and I'll get some pictures of both bikes then.

I saved a few that had been donated to a charity type group I am working with. Actually, these were in exchange for a donation that will help put a lot of deserving kids on bikes (and will put me commuting on this RB-T soon I hope!)

I got the Gt all cleaned up, and shifting/braking like new without changing a single cable. Got to love tri-flow! The shifters are like snapping your fingers. Fast and an audible click. No telling how long the housings will last though, since the plastic ferrules are beginning to crack. It will save me some money for now at least. Koolstops are in the mail(priority) that's all i t needs for now. The factory Shimano shoes are full of rim chunks already, so a true test ride will have to wait a few days.,,,,BD

UPDATE; Found the perfect pedals, some DMR V-8's. Nicely sealed bearings and a grease port for a needle. I have two pairs of these, and they hold your shoes like no other platforms I've used. I also got the Koolstops 3 days after they were shipped. The brakes are excellent now, and no more grinding noise. I could have made a hammer from those old Shimano shoes. I need a slight riser bar, or a slightly higher angle stem. It's good for sporting around the yard, but I can imagine my hands going numb after about 10-12 miles. Some silicone grips might not hurt either.,,,,BD

For now though, loving this mtb.

A number of years ago at a bicycle co-op I bought a MIELE UNO for $10.00 CDN. It was just the frame and 27" wheels. I converted it to 700C wheels and built it up. This is one of the early builds I did on it.

Miele Uno L.S. by Miele Man, on Flickr

Later on i had TRUE NORTH add brazons to it to convert it to cantliever brakes and a touring bike set up.

It then looked like this.

#04b Miele Uno L.S. Rebuilt 4 Touring - Added Bottle Mount, Canti-brake Studs & Bridge by Miele Man, on Flickr

I've since removed the bar end shifters, the brake levers and the rear derailler and replaced them with 2001 era Campagnolo MIRAGE units. I need to find or take an image of how it looks now.

That bicycle gets a lot of usage.

Cheers

Certainly a few from the dump

I saved a few from the dump fo sho.
Back in 2003 I bought a REI novara road bike not sure of model for $3. In 2010 I sold it for $50. I aint sold no more bikes. So there is no more cool flipping stories.

Shortly after that I bought the C-Itoh for $10 or even less if I recall.
I bought a mongoose 2.1 and a kids mongoose for $25.
The Trek nav 200 was found abandoned by the ditch and 5 days later, I took it home.
Then I won a new huffy cranbrook in a raffle.
Then the mongooses got stolen from my driveway.
Then I got a trek 700 was $10 with a flat tire and the other tire was pretty threadbare too. 2 tires and 1 tube later, its been run for 6+ months, I learnt derailer adjustment etc etc.
Ozone silver canyon 500 - $5, total fixer, everything was busted. And I am fixing it. Why ??? no idea, cos its there.
A Next aluminum bike, a pacific something or other - $5 these were lying face down in the mud, and only parts use.
3 sets of suspension forks 2 with disk carriers for $20. Probably wasted that $$$.
29er Ironhorse sinister 6.1 with a bad tube and a shimano deore wheel for $80. Christmas/New year gift for my son.
Then schwinn 1976 ladies with Sturmey archer hub with bad tubes + a ladies roadmaster (brake donor for the Huffy beach cruiser) for $20.
Then Bianchi Advantage frame, fork and quill for $5 and SA hub $2
Then Mongoose stat 29er for $40. Short little 29er. Perfect for my lovely 5' tall, with long legs wife. Who has been rocking the Trek 700 like a champion. I tell her, I am not upgrading you, I'm upgrading around you.
Then Schwinn super LeTour, Diamondback outlook and a pair of 700X23 weimann rims for $20.
There is a few that have been put on CL just to get more crap from the other junk piles around town.
I have my eye on a few more road bikes. Even if it is just to get them for parts to finish the schwinn or mod the C-Itoh or build the bianchi. I dont think I'll ever warm up to a true race look bike like the SLT. But A flat bar minimalist single speed - yes.
Cool.
Srinath.

Opportunity to be creative. It's a 56,so on the small size for me. Originally set to go as a college bike but once it got home it's too nice.

Hi Thumpic. Yeah, I made myself stop scanning CL for awhile and work on what I have. But for some reason something made me check that morning. Most often I'm like you were on this one, in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Are you they one that told him that the seat post was stuck on his High Sierra? I'm a sucker for old MTBs; but not stuck posts.

Wasn't me, I never looked at the MTB, I was zeroed in on the Traveler. And that's about it for now for me - barring of course something truly amazing popping up that I'll have to race you for ;-)

I won an E-bay auction on this Miyata 112. Winning bid was a whopping $7.16. I had to drive a bit to pick it up, but I really only bought it for the wheel set, which I need for another winter project nearing completion. The wheels are in great shape. I took some measurements on this when I got home and it seems to be telling me it wants to be turned in to a 650b conversion. Hmm....

$10 at a bike swap.... No, I am not joking. It's a fairly rare saddle, that pumps up to make the padding firmer/softer. I had never even seen or heard of these before, and was blown away by the attention to detail and construction quality. It may very well stay in the box. The founder of the local bicycle museum also happened to be at the swap for a while. She wants it for the museum. After thinking about it a few hours, I may do just that. She bought from the same woman, an aluminum framed Duravia I think the name was. A randonneur bike. Mafac brakes, suicide shifters. You could tell it was from another era.,,,,BD

The Duravia looked very much like this one. It had Racers for the brakes though, and a double chainring up front.

https://duravia.blogspot.com/2013/08/...-received.html

Same person had a set of Belleri gold anodized drop bars, and a Nitto Grand Randonneur 135. Also $10 a piece, both NOS and in the plastic sleeves. Yes, I bought them too.

BD, I'll keep you on mind. I haven't really done much of anything to the bike except bring it in the house to get a picture. I have a couple of Brooks that would look nice on there if I do the conversion. I'll take the saddle off in a couple of days and get some better pictures of it. Maybe we could work out some kind of swap!
