Making some progress on the 84 Novara Randonee, I did have a step back as I ordered the wrong length BB as I discovered when the crank inner ring rubbed when I dry fit it, oh well, so it won't be done in March. This was my experiment with nutted dual pivots and 700c wheels. I have since reverted to stock brakes and wheels.

This build has been slow, finally completed last fall. However the rear shifter cable wasn't great so I spend part of yesterday afternoon re-rigging it.

Just finished building up this Trek 400 for my trainer, Found the bike on Chicago CL, frame was in great shape, so stripped it and rebuilt it with better components.

Moved the old Mavic Tubulars over the the Lemond Ventoux this winter. Just tweaked the brakes to work on the narrower rims so I can take it out for a ride this morning.

Warning! Some may find the pictures offensive!

YES IT IS! Picked up the frame at a very reasonable price. Parts bin build but for the crankset. 15.5 lbs without carbon wheels , Carbon crankset, carbon seat post or carbon bars and stem. Shocked me. I figured it would be closer to 17 lbs with my parts.

Well I wasn't wrenching but I was watching @gugie bend on my crashed Cresta Fork

Starting point

Leverage was applied with various devices in the Atelier

and he ended up here with a fork like object

Thanks to @gugie the Cresta GT may go full Lazarus, hope to get it back together and on the road this week.

Upgraded mrs non-fixie's Devos. Changed the crankset from Shimano 600 49/38 to Stronglight 99 48/32 (alpine gearing!), brought the bars back a bit by exchanging the moustache bars with a Philippe touring set, replaced the honey-colored Brooks B17S with a black Brooks B17S Imperial.

All changes were approved during the test ride.

Installed a sram chain on the Botty. The drivetrain wouldnt turn more than a quarter of the way until i realized the big chain ring was installed backwards. The pin that sticks out behind the drive side crank arm was facing to the BB shell. All fixed now.

We just got in from all day down in Wilmington. I’m trying to get my balance calmed down. Might give it close to dusk for the show!

Edit: Got to feeling better and went out to the bike shed. Final check of the wires and a further twist of the screw to metal ground...

Headlight sure does fire right up! The rear not. I was going to buy new bulbs anyway as back up. Will enjoy rolling this down the neighborhood tonight or tomorrow.

The drag on the rear wheel, “ OMG “! Glad I have a 20T cog back there.

Recently stripped down the Gary Hale (not pictured) which is my regular rider. I had to fund the basic eminent costs of living. Once the winds change, I’ll be putting it back together with a yet to be determined group set.

In in the meantime, I’ve installed the headset on the Eisentraut. Dry fitted the crankset, and gave the frame a general mock build up to visualize the goal.

I’ve also removed a tricky bb from a French mystery frame, and now have it in the stand to begin what should be a relatively quick, down, and dirty build for the clunker challenge.

While the TA crank is looking like it should work for the ‘Traut, it’s possible that in final set up it may sit a tad too far out. I’m using the TA 374 spindle. It’s the longest of the four TA spindles offered. However, if that’s the case, the spindle which came out of the French frame is a TA 373. Second to longest, and 3.5 mm shorter than the 374. Nice surprise to find that my bases are covered here.

Finally got around to beginning the build on this SQUEE li'l Terry-geometry Bridgestone 550 for my diminutive wife. First time using these 3x8 Sora brifters I'm going to try to make work with a 7-speed SIS cog set on back (we'll see!)

Anyone here have any luck with the slight mis-match on cog spacing I'm attempting here? Anyone else have a 74bcd inner ring in 28T or 30T they want to throw at me? Anyone else wanna guess how long it's been since I straightened up my workbench?

Hey Tim, ^^^^^ the green Raleigh looks awesome in that color! Cool repair stand you have there also. Got my TDF back together with some 700x 25 tires and proper pedals and a leather seat. Leaving the cockpit as is bc it so comfortable.

Mavic 500 wheelset

getting my early 80s gazelle 753 build started and the wheelsets ( Mavic 500 36h hubs, Mavic Module E2) are first on the list. looking to get wheels as light as practicable so DT Revolution spokes were contemplated. Weighed the revos vs. comps and surprised at the 100g weight savings per 72 spokes. Unfortunately the revos were 2mm too short so went ahead with the DT comps.

Will be getting a set of Mavic 500 28h hubs to build up with Mavic CX 18 tubs shortly to have a spare set of wheels for the gazelle.

Still fine-tuning my touring ride for this season, but I seem to have reached the point where changes are no longer improvements, so I need to find me another wrenching project.

Latest change was to a new Brooks C17 that I'd been wanting to try. So far I haven't found it to be nearly as comfortable as the hard leather saddle that was mounted before (and will probably go back on). A bit of a disappointment, that.
