Thanks to Skip for putting the li'l event on! Not a whole lot of selling went on, it's true, in fact I didn't even take my stuff out of the bag I brought it in. But the companionship was great, and I was especially glad to (finally) meet RobbieTunes, one of the first people I became friends with here on BF about ten years ago.
Hope to see many of the same folks at iab's ride in two weeks! (Also hope for much more temperate weather than today--brrr!)

It really was great finally meeting the guys for the first time. This was my first bf gathering and could not have been better. You read a lot about how friendly they are, but now I know first hand, they really are. Here's a few pics I took.

Don't specifically recall that chat, but thank you. The Bates is mostly either completely not noticed or strongly derided when it gets out. The positive responses are very few and very welcome.
The Bates will be out on the road again this season. Got eclipsed by the Carré last year and that will be corrected.

Thank you Skip for hosting a great event. I haven't lived in Chicago is several years, the gathering was a chance to catch up with a very good group. I'd like to invite everyone this summer to Lake Geneva.
I managed to find a freewheel and seatpost that I have an immediate need for. I managed to sell about $300 in parts. I was also happy to give away a few items to good homes.

The curvy English bikes don't get much recognition nowadays.
edit: is that a Cantiflex version? i.e. larger diameter tubes at the center? also very cool!

Being from the south, I never understood the north’s fascination with hotdogs. Down here they’re usually reserved for picnics, birthdays or ballgames. Having been to NW Indiana/Chicago the last four years, I am becoming a convert; however, it is only when visiting there. I’ve been to Portillo’s in Merrillville a few times and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The first time I went, I was astonished at the number of patrons.
I think Portillo's has decent products, but they weren't there in the day, at least in my neighborhood.

Being from Wisconsin and 47 miles from Oscar Meyer, I always thought there was a huge chasm between a hot dog and a bratwurst. Wasn't until I had one from a cart in DC that I realized there are "other" hot dogs. Portillo's was the best I've had in a long, long time, maybe ever. Had a salad bar on it, I think, which is likely where the heartburn came from...
I still have some of the Italian beef, and the catering lady gave me an entire loaf of bread, so I've got that too. I bought a whole roll of Saran wrap to make sure it stayed fresh.
