thanks very much for the update -

the crank fixing bolts certainly appear to be Stronglight 16mm fellows

have never seen a cotterless spindle with a marking on one of the flats similar to yours so cannot comment

---

on the head parts the W symbol is for Woit of Belgium

it is not a simple W but rather a trigraph

firm founded by two brothers with the last name of Woit; what appear to be at first glance seraphs on the arms of the W letter are in actuality their initials.

the "seraph" on the left arm is a letter T and the one on the right arm is a letter F. these ae the initials of the brothers' first names.

this marking on a bottom bracket cup shows the symbol a bit better -

firm produced chainsets, headsets and cottered bottom brackets

at one time their products were stocked by Ron Kitching and shown in the RonKit "Everything Cycling" handbooks of the 1960's era.

they are yet in operation today but no longer manufacture cycle fittings -

WOIT Fonderie des Métaux non Ferreux - Herstal - Liège - Wallonie

all that i have learned of Woit comes from our Munny -

Thanks for all the information, juvela. I did know that I've seen that trigraph somewhere, very interesting!

The crank bolts are 16mm indeed. The spindle is 121mm long and hollow as any other Stronglight spindles. What is that spindle marked with "97" in your post?

...another "senior moment" on me part...and am more than eno' "senior" to have lot's o' 'em!

after posting recalled that prior examples had unmarked centre sections. they are indeed Verot produits. the first one i took in came on an Allegro Special of the early 1960's. the marking on its flat was a "64" which made me wonder if it might be a date.

however, the exmple in the photo posted also came from an early 1960's two-wheeler; so much for that idea.

your spindle and fixing bolts are definite Verot. do not recognize a specific maker on the cups & lockring.

---

forgot to mention that any errors in what i posted regarding Woit are all mine own. everything correct and of value is courtesy of Munny.

---

shall look forward to following along with the progress of developments on this new intake...

with non-fixie in your corner you can no go wrong

Thanks for extra information on Verot. Never heard about the manufacturer before abd couldn't find much about it. I suppose it is Lous Verot, right?

Louis Vérot was the original manufacturer of the "Stronglight" cranks. It was the "light" (Duralmin) version of the steel "Strong" cranks he started making earlier.
