Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not got a road bike yet, but I'm in the process of building one for myself. I've got a Kinesis frame (apparently a Alu-Ti alloy with Carbon rear stays) with carbon forks, and an Ultegra 10 groupset is winging it's way to my Dealer v soon! Probably gonna buy Mavic Elites although maybe some old-style 105 wheels - any suggestions gratefully received!
I'll post some piccies when I get it finished!
Cheers guys

Like others, I too do not have a camera, but you'll have to trust my description:
a 1992 Litespeed Ulitmate -- yes, the original with the curved seat tube -- why they got rid of that I'll never understand -- smooth as silk, but accelerates in a flash due to the tighter rear triangle. Ultegra equipped, polished Ti finish, upgrading to carbon fork soon. Recently re-installed my orginal white leather Selle Italia Flite saddle to shave the few grams that I can't seem to shed off my body.
I'll borrow a cam and post pics soon

I just got my first road bike! The auction I was bidding on ended last night. I just got a Windsor Bristol and it should be here by the week's end. I'm super excited to finally start in the road biking scene. Hopefully this bike will be a good entry point.

Here's my main road ride. 2001 GT ZR.1. I bought it as a frameset and built it up. Full Ultegra except for the FSA crankset. Flight Deck computer, carbon s/post and Mavic Cosmic Elite wheels with Continental Attack/Force tires. I'd like to upgrade to 10 speed Ultegra this year. Later.

The first bike is my newest ride. The second is my trusty old steel friend that has served me well for 14 years.

1. '04 Moots Vamoots - bead blasted titanium
  • Reynolds Ouzo Pro fork
  • Campy Chorus components with 172.5mm cranks
  • Deda Newton OS Bar and Stem
  • Chris King headset
  • Campy Proton wheels and Hutchinson Fusion Comp tires
  • Selle Italia Flight Ti Gel dark blue saddle
  • Cinelli dark blue/denim cork bar tape
  • Look CX-6 black carbon pedals
  • Specialized carbon (or carbon look?) bottle cages with red accents (until I can find blue or all black for around the same reasonable price)

2. '90 Specialized Sirrus in black (entry level steel racer with excellent geometry for the price - less than $600 back then)
  • Steel fork
  • Shimano Ultegra bb, 170mm cranks, chainrings, cassette, and shift levers
  • Shimano RX100 brakes and derailleurs
  • Sun wheels with Ultegra hubs and Conti Ultra 2000 tires
  • Avocet 02 saddle (black with red kevlar patches on the points) - most comfortable saddle I have ever used!
  • Cinelli red cork bar tape
  • Look white clipless pedals

The Specialized has been a good ride but decided it was time to upgrade from the downtube shifters and try a different frame material. Did plenty of centuries and some races on the Specialized and have racked up tens of thousands of miles on it. I love the Moots but don't think I'll ever part with the Specialized.

My ride is far sharper than the picture shown on the website, and it has some upgrades including a lower set stem, 105 shifters and I hope to get a 105 crank or similar on there soon. I hope to eventually be up to full 105 but im just waiting for the shifters to wear out.

Cannondale R600 CAAD5 upgraded to Ultegra all around except for shifters (I have them but seems pointless to upgrade the 105's) and a just added Fizik Arione - what a saddle. Did 100kms on the airone this weekend, sore legs but no sore butt ! Shimano RD540 SPDL pedals and a Prorace carbon seat-post.

Wow!!! Seems your saddle is way back. That puts a lot of stress on your seatpost and saddle rails. Is your stem long enough?
Otherwise your bike is beautiful.

Hey - you talkin ta me???
Yep the seat is way back, that due to a fitting I had at the LBS. They assured me that it was fine. Bike is a 56 frame, I'm 5'11 and around 90kg (200lbs) and falling. Apparently I have long femurs. I hope the post doesn't break, thet would be a tragedy.

With the saddle in that position and 90 kg you're in serious danger. The rails of your saddle could snap, I've seen it happen.
