Oddly, the thin/super light women aren't the better climbers.

See Leah Goldstein, one of the best female climbers in north america.

It's only a little disheartening to know that I weigh about 60 lbs more than one of the "big" guys. There's just not that much to lose on my body. Oh well, I'll take 'em on the downhills.

Ullrich and I are the same height and same build, but 20 pounds lighter. Damn, I thought I was in decent shape. Weren't people giving him trouble about his off-season eating habits?

agree. im having same situation as well. In fact, im almost skinny in every part of my body. Im 182cm with 112pounds weight. Based on https://www.cptips.com/climb.htm, "World class climbers generally have less than 2 pounds of body weight per inch of height. (For example, if you're 70 inches tall (5-foot- 10), you would weigh less than 140 pounds.)...", i think im very much below the par. But that doesnt mean that im a good climber. I think what matters more is the effort you put into climbing. If you train more on climbing(no matter how big is your leg), of course you can do better than a pure climber that doesnt train that much on hill(me). It's a shame to lose to those fella who is bigger than me but excel better on climbing.

thats not that heavy really, im just under 5'11 and weight in at 158 lbs, most dont believe my weight, as my waist is 28inches. most of my weight is stored in my thigh's around 25inches. iv never been dropped on the hills or flats by any-one at local level yet, just need to work on my decending which is very poor compered to most.

Do climbers have thin arms too? I measured my biceps and they are only 9 inches thick.

Exactly, if you look at a pure distance runners legs they are usually thin, however a sprinter tends to have thicker legs. When I was running a lot before my knee surgery I put in a lot of speed work. That really added size to my legs.

yea, he gets fat though in the offseason. I really dont feel like lookin up pics of jan in the offseason, but if you would be so inclined to do a google search of something likw "jan ullrich offseason", you'd probably find pics of a pretty chubby looking jan. I'd say that he's over 180 in the winter, maybe more. not huge, but fat for a pro cyclist whos getting paied to ride a bike.
