My saddle is pretty far forward, like with a normal saddle it was measured at 4mm setback. Millimeters. Combination of short quads, long cranks, bad back, and forward position to be able to bring legs up without kneeing myself in the gut.

Is fixing the saddle setback part of your goal toward UCI compliance?

Yes, that's the big thing in my head, the set back. It's a big one because I was so far outside the legal parameters. The bar height not as much because I feel like I could fix that if necessary.

A couple years ago I bought a Tares saddle (like an Antares but cut off, hence the "Antares" became the "Tares"), never tried it. During my Guru fit I tried that and an Adamo. Hated the Tares, gave it to the fit guy. I'm now on the Adamo. I think I have 5 cm set back now.

@carpediemracing, you'll recall my funky position from last year was similar to your super forward setup. Since my new bike has different geometry I actually couldn't replicate my fit, so I wound up experimenting with setback until I found something that felt right. I'm a lot more aero, like multiple mph more aero at speed, and I'm engaging my hamstrings a lot more than I was. You might discover the same when you get yourself right with the uci, it's probably worth playing around with.

I started pushing my saddle back a couple years ago to better engage my glutes during my pedal stroke - this was all part of my rehab from when I partially tore my patella. Anyway, I ended up with my saddle set back 11 cm. I've since moved it back forward some and am now at 7.5 cm.

My biggest thing is my back murders me with more set back.

I've tried with more set back, probably for about 5 years, mainly off season, starting as soon as I stopped racing, so maybe from September until I went to SoCal in mid-Jan. I'd inevitably return to a more forward position as I rode more in SoCal.

Having said that I'm experimenting a bit with more set back.

Do you drop the seat post as you increase setback?

Yes. I measure saddle indentation->BB, keeping that constant.

I did go 4mm higher, killed me, put it back.

if 'multiple' = 3 and 'at speed' = 25mph, then the change you describe is roughly equivalent to nearly 100 watts.

^ At 400w on flat ground it's ~2mph +-.5mph, which may be like lol 400w how long can you hold that, but at this point when fresh I can hold that for long enough for it to matter.

New team bike complete (for now) to get the spring underway. i paid for etap but that's delayed til who knows when....

Spaceship, changed back to arione saddle. ares was too short. and i dont wanna flip the post on this ugly seattube junction. Added some risers to the spacers and shortened stem by 15mm.

With training wheels. I may just race on them though. They're cheap enough to replace if I bin it.

Went from my first bike out of college to fancier carbon bike to even fancier bling bike and now back to ol' faithful. Rode it across tx and ca. Not the prettiest or the fanciest but it rides like a Cadillac and hasn't held me back. Plain, simple and easy to service. Carbon tubular and possibly skinsuit+aero helmet for race day. *much love*

My favorite race bike frame was a 2002 Lemond Zurich. It fit me like a glove. It had a really short head tube so I could really slam it and get really low.

Fit is way more important than most aspects when considering a racing bike. If it doesn't fit it is pretty useless.

Daniel said to me he really likes that Ritchey Solo Stream stem because he can rest his chest on it without it digging in. I said TMI.
That picture above is a 120mm and 42 wide. The picture way above was 130mm and 44 wide - so new pic was needed.

Off the beaten path training bike. Likely switching to thinner tires for better rolling resistance

Thinner tires typically do not have lower rolling resistance. Just the opposite.

I'm talking going from 35 down to 28, on a mtb rim no less, so the 28 is probably still closer to around 30

I hate you.

Sorry for the garbage basement shot, but I went low. -25 stem to compensate for too-tall HT and external cup headset. Finally feels about right. Looks a little silly though.

@grolby - Dang, you must be a short effer. That head tube is about the height of a roll of quarters.
@spectastic - You might want to check out the Specialized Roubaix Pro in 700x30/32. It comes stock on the Diverge, and they're pretty reasonable at $40 MSRP.
