Most other radio in L.A. sucks. Most of the rock stations have their stupid giggle/chat shows in the morning and then playlist the rest of the day, or 'classic rock' with the same tired 12 songs every day.
Well, I meant both public and commercial, but I agree with the things you've said about commercial radio. The difference is, I enjoy some of the morning radio personalities, and I listen to pop music .

I also agree that public radio is better. The above station I mentioned (Jazz88) is publicly funded and quite excellent.

I heard this yesterday:

I linked that **** weeks ago. He was riding a loop mostly, yes. 6am to 6pm every day. So much goddamn poop prior to 6am! Mind boggling.

Now I have to read the study.

Music. I have a tape of a song that for the life of me I couldn't identify, recorded it off the local university radio station back in the 80s, transferred it a few times, the only decent copy I have was a "transfer" tape, sort of like a USB drive for me back in the day - I'd put songs on this 15 minute long cassette tape temporarily to move to another place. The 15 minute tape was originally mean for saving data off our TRS-80 computer, but after we got a floppy drive I procured the tape deck and the two tapes for music stuff, as scrap paper if you will.

For years I'd occasionally search/google the lyrics, to no success. I downloaded Shazam for the sole purpose of IDing the song but my recording of a recording of a recording of a recording (and so on) was too poor and Shazam couldn't figure out the song.

Fast forward about 30 years from when I first heard the song. A local rider on Facebook, who used to DJ the same station WXCI offered to ID the song, and he did, immediately.

I heard this yesterday:

I started listening to KCRW when my wife was temporarily in LA and I would drive down on weekends. For awhile it seemed like everytime there was a catchy new song on a commercial or show, I had heard it a few weeks earlier on Morning Becomes Eclectic.

I should note for those telling me to listen to radio that I don't ever drive. Well, it's monsooning here so I do drive like 8 minutes/day.

I have 2 wisdom teeth coming out Thursday, unfortunately they began flaring up a few days ago. Needless to say the last few days have not been pleasant. I have a trainer ride planned for after work, will muscle through. I'm supposed to start a new training block today. With the procedure coming up and recovery needed I may push this training block a week.

Lol. It is convincing. The fake citations are a nice touch. "Adamson, L., Wilson, C. & Findley, O. (2011) High-Frequency of Maternal Kissing of Early Childhood Injuries. Washington, DC: United States Census Bureau."

Of course you know you can listen over the web, too? jazzandblues.org or kcsn.org are the two I was reffering to. I used to listen to indie103.1 when it was on the air but since it is now web only it is a little weird, even for me.

The worst part about the rainy weather in the west is that if we complain about it then we get the "but you're in a drought" guilt trip

My in laws got me a Kindle Voyager for Christmas. A perfect gift, since it's something I've kind of wanted but wouldn't get for myself. Been reading a good bit, I'm enjoying it. So far I've read 20000 Leagues, The Proving Ground (read before, but I enjoyed it then and again), On The Beach (interesting and good book, badly written in my opinion), and working on Alas, Babylon now.

I love my kindle. I devour books on it. I read 50 novels last year. I recently ordered the only 2 Iain Banks books that are not kindleable, as paperbacks, and had the hardest time getting through them. Stupid archaic paper books.
