Wow. Do you have complicated tax situations? I figured for normal people, a w2, some dividends, a mortgage, maybe a kid or two, it was pretty simple to get the right amount. Maybe I'm doing it all wrong.

I'm hoping for a solid refund since I only worked for half the year before becoming a student again.

I'm gonna get a good refund, like last year. I structured my withholding situation at work as such, because I'm lousy at saving money. Ya, The Man is collecting interest on the $$$ instead of me, as FB alluded to earlier, but hey...

I'm going to buy a new firmer mattress, and some race wheels.

The interest rates these days suck so badly it doesn't even matter. If you get a huge $10k refund, you probably lost out on about $50 in interest. Oh well.

Yeah, that's what I tell myself. "Even if you were good at saving money, you wouldn't have earned much more in interest"

Have you tried an automatic transfer into a savings account? Just take a certain amount each week, 10% or whatever you can afford, and have it transferred from checking to savings (preferably high yield, I use American Express bank). I'm guessing you've tried this.

Works for us though, if it isn't in checking I don't feel like I really have it. Occasionally we overspend on cards and have to take a bit from savings, but overall the trend is way positive.

Same here, although I forgot to deduct an education expense and need to file an amended return. I've used Turbo Tax the last few years which made things simpler.

Funny when I have a question about taxes with a mutual fund or something as the answer is :"Discuss with your tax adviser" .... what tax adviser ??

yes. beyond what we earn and my wife's bonuses being paid in vesting stocks and buying a house and all the other stuff, she's paid some sort of amount from her family's business of which we see no money but it somehow works out to be a tax boon for the family in whole.

Yeah, it's part of the benefit package. like a lot of places, they match up to x% per month, I forget exactly what atm. The growth of that and other investments is what makes me a little bit OK with living month-to-month. I have a lot of expenses atm.

I need a new mattress, too, and this Saturday I had another problem with my Ksyrium rear wheel. This time 2 spoke nipples broke and I ended up taking a taxi back for the first time ever.
Last year a spoke broke but I was able to wobble back to my car. Then the rim cracked and Mavic warranteed it.
Then Thanksgiving day the freehub started locking up and the lbs had it for 5 weeks trying to get parts, etc.
Now it looks like a taco, almost.
Gotta sell those wheels.

Dang, John, bummer about the wheels. I just got a set of Ultegra 6800 wheels and I'm pretty happy with them, running IRC Roadlite tubeless 700x25s (which measure 27mm wide on these wheels).

That's some bad luck (or a really ****ty wheel? Or both?).

I'm sick, again. Second time this winter. Just too much stress, not enough sleep (waking up a lot to help the wife when she isn't feeling well at night), catching up with me. Only gonna get worse once the baby gets here, hopefully I kick this first and can stay healthy.

I'm used to breaking wheels but they usually last 8-10k miles. This has been ridiculous.
