Probably the sketchiest actually, in my limited pro/1 experience.

Thats the Masters Nats crit for you. Stupidly technical course and rabid dogs equal crashes.

I agree.

But at Elite Nats last year it was a super technical course, but way less crashes than Masters Nats.. the course wasn't that selective, but it was a) hard to get in to the race and b) hard to stay in the race.

It was the second choice course so they get some leeway for that, but this isn't the first dangerous Nats crit course. I much prefer not selective to dangerous, but I'm not in a position where it matters.

sucks. at least you and the bike made it out ok.

there was a crash there in that chicane on 2 to go. hard to tell from the video, but what about it made it so dangerous?

Yeah there were a number of crashes in that corner.

I think it was just how quick the left came after the right; little time for correction, and if one guy didn't start turning left soon enough they would do what they did to me, I guess.

They moved the left-hand turn back a bit after our race, but people still complained about the course in those races too. I thought the course was fine, just the racers that f-ed it up.

Spec - I went down in that same turn, but I went down on lap 2, the first time we went through the course at speed. I guess someone in front of me didn't make the turn tight enough and went wide into the rails, and then a pileup ensued after. I went down trying to avoid the pileup.

After getting a new rear wheel and my free lap, I jumped back into the race. I didn't think the corner was that bad, but at that point, I was a bit tentative through the turns and hurting.

That turn had twice as much room as the sketchy turn in Bend. That was stupid riding.

Hey all!

So this is a video covering my first criterium race at the White Plains Downtown Crit that just went down. I have a vlog that I do in the beginning leading up to the race but if you want to skip that section then go directly to 5:00 minutes in. I ended up taking 2nd on the podium in a group of 25 riders. It was a pretty intense race but I've adapted a lot of the techniques I used in my previous road races. Let me know how I did, all comments are welcomed. Oh! also like the video if you dig the visuals and my commentary. Subscribe as well if you want updates as I'll be hitting more races this season. Thanks and Enjoy!

You are obviously strong, but you eat a ton of wind. You let riders get up the road, then brought the field back together and pulled for two laps. Why? If you have that kind of power then you should attack.

I peed a little each time the bike went across one of those cross walks.

a note on your final lap. you got too hung on up on your overall speed, when you should have focused on playing your opponent. you pretty much gave him a lead out and set him up for the sprint. what you could've done is instead of accelerating on the downhill to keep the speed up, ease up and let him pass you. If he's smart, he'd try to surprise you with a jump. And if you were smart, you'd anticipate that. the fact that you lost the sprint wasn't so much how early you started it. It takes a pretty strong guy to be successful in attacking off the front, especially when the guy behind you is fresher than you from all that pulling you did. What gave Tim the advantage was that he was in the position to win. It's as much a mental game as it is a physical one.

Maybe we should see 60 seat angles and bars way back. I have to lookup UCI regs again.

I tried that the other day. It burned up my quads real quick and I felt like I was going to flip over the bars.

I tend to concur - but that is why i posted it. On that day, with that group the two guys were just playing around. I didn't see any of that position when he was "on-the-rivet" being abused by the euro guys. However it is often used by Sagan. Discussed in the car it was something to do in the wind for short period that also gave a bit of relief to normal cycling and when legs burned, didn't affect normal riding. But - I'm just an observer, interviewer. @mattm - I expect in 2 years you will be able to ride him off your wheel. That is kinda up to him (and you). But it was fun while it lasted and BF is still cheaper than therapy.

A former local Cat 1 would do a lot of coasting when bridging to breaks and such. He's the one that got 3rd at the Elite RR one year, bridging a minute gap solo to a 4 man break, dragging them to the line (because one of the break guys told him to pull them to the line because they'd been out there for a while), leading out the sprint (he can't sprint to save his life), and still getting 3rd. I don't remember him specifically pedaling. I should ask.
