Just out of curiosity, what is the colour of the frame?

Lilac, all one colour. Comes up on Google image search of "Peugeot Optimum"

Hmm, French catalogues of the era include colour codes and MG is described as Gris Clair Métal (i.e. Metallic Light Grey).

The 1992 French catalogues state Gris Claire Métal for MG in several places, for different models. I would think that all the models coming out of the French factories would use the same colour codes, regardless of the intended market, otherwise it would be very confusing for the painters.

I noticed that Iridemine's bicycle (post #11) also had an MG colour code. I found a photo in his gallery album (see attached). Looking at it, I could see how someone could interpret it ether way, depending on their colour acuity. It is light grey but there is a definite purple tint. Some might call it light grey while others might call it lilac. It might even change appearance based on lighting conditions. In the end, I guess it comes down to how the designer sees/interprets the colour.

Regardless, looking at Iridimine's bicycle, it becomes apparent that it is 1991 hybrid and not a 1981. It has 1990s graphics, flat bars, cantilever brakes and a Unicrown fork. Also, the top tube decal also says Harvard 21, implying a 21 speed, which would be correct for 1991.
